Some 2024 albums I like.

Pond - Stung!
Bent Knee - Twenty Pills Without Water
Consider the Source - The Stare
Pollution Opera - Pollution Opera
Nolan Potter - The Perils of Being Trapped Inside a Head

They keep coming thick and fast but an album that impressed me recently is An Empire by Swedish post metal band A Swarm Of The Sun. I need to give it more listens to give it a fair rating but seems they are somewhat overlooked with all their albums since 2010 having only 13 ratings with their previous album from 2019 just one rating!

I actually haven't heard too much from 2024. I typically don't buy albums just because they are new. That said I enjoyed the latest by Returned to Earth, Big Big Train, Amarok and Jon Anderson. I have but have not yet listened to the latest by Kaipa, Drifting Sun and Man Doki Soulmates.

It's likely that my album of the year will be Weather Systems - Ocean Without A Shore. Shame that Anathema don't exist anymore but this is as close as it gets. Better than The Optimist and Distant Satellites (both are good though) it more or less continues the run of albums that started with We're Here Because We're Here.

There isn't much 2024 material yet that really strikes me. Currently the album to beat for me is

Aquaserge - La Fin de l'Economie,
but I'm not quite so enthusiastic about it that I couldn't imagine coming across a better one in the remaining months. Anyway, Aquaserge pretty reliably do stuff that I love in recent years. And that's definitely not because they sound always the same. Quite the opposite.

I should listen to that Aquaserge. I was thinking about reviving this topic over the weekend. Not ordered much, and not all listened to properly yet, this is much of my 2024 list so far. Not all is Prog, but I don't much care to organise into Prog, Non-Prog, Prog-related, semi-prog.... And in or out of PA is not of that much personal interest to me any longer.

Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - "No Title as of 13 February 2024 28,340 Dead"
samlrc - A Lonely Sinner
The Smile - Wall of Eyes
The Smile - Cutouts
Tapir! - The Pilgrim, Their God and the King of My Decrepit Mountain
Geordie Greep - The New Sound
Julia Holter - Something in the Room She Moves
St. Vincent - All Born Screaming
Xiu Xiu - 13" Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto With Bison Horn Grips
Enuchs - Harbour Century
Uboa - Impossible Light
Phuyu y la Fantasma - A| Tetralogía de bichos y setas
Melt-Banana - 3+5
Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She
Mabe Fratti - Sentir que no sabes
Kimbanourke 김반월키 - Binjari
Goat - Goat
Martha Skye Murphy - Um
Cosmo Sheldrake - Eye to the Ear
English Teacher - This Could Be Texas
glass beach - plastic death
MGMT - Loss of Life
Monkey3 - Welcome to the Machine
Mount Kimbie - The Sunset Violent
The Decemberists - As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again
Beak> - >>>>
Prizes Roses Rosa - TO Fire Clay
The Necks - Bleed
Drew McDowall - A Thread, Silvered and Trembling
Wand - Vertigo
God Is an Astronaut - Embers
MONO - Oath
Fire! - Testament
Herhums - To Save Us ALL

My Top 5 so far. My year for some fantastic female vocalists and some mellower sounds.

Still can't decide which Stoner album I'll pick this year... Suggestions welcome!!

1. Regan & Bricheno - ApparitionsWink
2. Look to Windward - The last scattering surface
3. Ruby Dawn - Blood on water
4. Enigmatic Sound Machines - Hierarchies of Angels
5. Rob Harrison - Explode my Head

Pleroma by Orgone is one of the best, if not the best, metal album in a year with a bunch of great metal albums (the ones by Blood Incantation, Ulcerate, Oranssi Pazuzu, Pyrrhon, Convulsing...) , but it gathered very little attention here, sadly. I recommend it to everyone who likes metal.

Have you listened to the new album by Fievel is Glauque? I think that you may enjoy it if you like Aquaserge.
