More about "Supper's Ready", which, while not overtly politically, concludes by seeming to be optimistic about the future of human societies, and sees "the new Jerusalem" as the model for a perfect, fulfilled society (at least according to Edward Macan's Rocking the Classics, 1997 p. 81):

Similarily to "Supper's Ready", VdGG's "Childlike Faith in Childhood's End" is not overtly political but rather optimistic about the future of Humanity, and thus surely having some political effect:

Gila made an album on the issue of Native Americans called "Bury my heart at the Wounded Knee". I think it's one of the few progressive albums to directly address such an issue.

I have listened to their first freewheelin psychedelic debut [which is decent] and have this to listen to. To furthur complex matters, I have little background knowledge about such an issue and will probably need to pore over the lyrics to make sense of it [or make a forum post asking folks to explain it to me like I am 5 :p ].

The lyrics of Manifest Tyranny, a concept album by the progressive metal ensemble Andromeda, delve into themes of political stigma, governmental corruption, and the ramifications of war. The Tangent is one of the most interesting modern bands lyrics-wise. The Wiki Man for example is about the hazards of the growing trend of easily user-editable databases (Wikipedia, RYM, IMDB et al.) resulting in information becoming increasingly poorly preserved and hoaxes easier to to fabricate. It is very relevant in the post-truth Dead Internet era of today.

This is a very interesting thread.  Just to pick up the point about Art Bears and Henry Cow, they represented the most radical form of politicised rock in the 70s and in effect, cut loose from the industry putting on self-sufficient tours and releasing their final album independently.  In some ways, they were ahead of the punk curve.  Other overtly political artists who might be deemed 'prog' include Stereolab, Robert Wyatt and GSYBE.  On the right, individual musicians might call themselves conservative but rarely is it overt in the music or lyrics (except possibly Zappa).  Not sure where all this is heading but it's interesting - as the quote from John Grierson on the back cover of Henry Cow's 'In Praise of Learning' (1975) states, 'art is not a mirror, it is a hammer'.

Rather than politics, SG's Canción De Alicia is about the impossibility of logic under a repressive dictatorial regime. The initial chorus goes like:
