This isn't really prog but I'm going to post it anyway since it's by a prog icon. I suppose most on here have it heard it before but for those who haven't here you go.

Yes - "Total Mass Retain", Close to the Edge, Close to the Edge (1972)

About this part of the Close to the Edge suite has Jon Anderson told:

"It's got this deep sad feeling for the mass rape of our planet, for the evilness which creates the wars, and there's no answers to all these things. It's common sense in knowing what's right and what's wrong."

(as quoted in David Weigel's The Show That Never Ends: The rise and fall of Prog Rock, 2017 p. 104)

Shots taken at Ron Reagan's United States - though the pictures show the Great Depression images.

It's missing the last minutes with more closing comments

This is worthy of Waters' Final Cut or Amused To Death.

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

More about "Supper's Ready", which, while not overtly politically, concludes by seeming to be optimistic about the future of human societies, and sees "the new Jerusalem" as the model for a perfect, fulfilled society (at least according to Edward Macan's Rocking the Classics, 1997 p. 81):

Genesis - "Supper's Ready"    (part vii)

Can't you feel our souls ignite?
Shedding ever-changing colours
In the darkness of the fading night
Like the river joins the ocean
As the germ in a seed grows
We have finally been freed to get back home
There's an angel standing in the sun
And he's crying with a loud voice
"This is the supper of the mighty one"
Lord of Lords, King of Kings
Has returned to lead his children home
To take them to the new Jerusalem

(from the album Foxtrot (1972))

Similarily to "Supper's Ready", VdGG's "Childlike Faith in Childhood's End" is not overtly political but rather optimistic about the future of Humanity, and thus surely having some political effect:

Van der Graaf Generator - "Childlike Faith in Childhood's End"  (excerpt)

All the jokers and gaolers, all the junkies
and slavers too,
all the throng who have danced a merry tune -
human we can all be,
but Humanity we must rise above,
in the name of all faith and hope and love.
There's a time for all pilgrims,
and a time for the fakers too,
there's a time when we all will stand alone
and nude,
naked to the galaxies -
naked, but clothed in the overview...
as we reach Childhood's End we must start anew.
And though dark is the highway,
and the peak's distance breaks my heart,
for I never shall see it, still I play my part,
believing that what waits for us
is the cosmos compared to the dust of the past...
In the death of mere humans life shall start

(from the album Still Life (1976))

Here's a song about the French queen, Marie Antoinette, literally losing her head in 1793, during the French Revolution (1789-99):

Curved Air - "Marie Antoinette"    (excerpt)

Marie Antoinette
Your name's a legend
In this land
Treasure for your pleasure
Bestowed on favoured gentleman
The people are in arms
Marching on the town
They rise
Chanting revolution!
"Vive la Nation!"
Marie Antoinette
Your shadow's falling
Along the land
Anger born of hunger
Poisons the hearts of your loyal men
Fire in their eyes
Steel in their hands
They rise
Chanting revolution!
"Vive la Nation!"
.....................
We are the people of France
We demand
That the elegant blue-blooded
Leeches that bleed us
Are taught what it means
To grow fat and not feed us
We are the people of France
You must heed us
Already at the Bastille
The prisoners all run free
They're hammering on the door
Marie Antoinette
They've taken the guillotine
They're coming to take the Queen

(from the allbum Phantasmagoria (1972))

Proteo's second album, Republikflucht!...Facing East, which was released in 2013, is a concept album about the Cold War, with a story line placed in the 1980s.

Gila made an album on the issue of Native Americans called "Bury my heart at the Wounded Knee". I think it's one of the few progressive albums to directly address such an issue.

I have listened to their first freewheelin psychedelic debut [which is decent] and have this to listen to. To furthur complex matters, I have little background knowledge about such an issue and will probably need to pore over the lyrics to make sense of it [or make a forum post asking folks to explain it to me like I am 5 :p ].

Germans making an album about Native Americans' issues is as laughable as blind people writing a guide for coloring comic books. 🤣

Disconnect's Falling Man, an over 17-minute long epic song that elaborates on the 9/11 controversy.

The lyrics of Manifest Tyranny, a concept album by the progressive metal ensemble Andromeda, delve into themes of political stigma, governmental corruption, and the ramifications of war. The political discourse is adeptly articulated throughout this record and makes it relevant these days even more than in 2011 when the album was released. Additionally, the music incorporates samples of notable speeches from former U.S. Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush.

Not sure it hasnìt been mentioned before:

RENAISSANCE: Mother Russia

Very far from prog, I love the Spanish SKA-P
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Through its thoughtful lyrics, The Tangent's Supper's Off combines existential questions and critique on modern society, touching upon issues such as consumerism.

The Tangent is one of the most interesting modern bands lyrics-wise. The Wiki Man for example is about the hazards of the growing trend of easily user-editable databases (Wikipedia, RYM, IMDB et al.) resulting in information becoming increasingly poorly preserved and hoaxes easier to to fabricate. It is very relevant in the post-truth Dead Internet era of today.

This is a very interesting thread.  Just to pick up the point about Art Bears and Henry Cow, they represented the most radical form of politicised rock in the 70s and in effect, cut loose from the industry putting on self-sufficient tours and releasing their final album independently.  In some ways, they were ahead of the punk curve.  Other overtly political artists who might be deemed 'prog' include Stereolab, Robert Wyatt and GSYBE.  On the right, individual musicians might call themselves conservative but rarely is it overt in the music or lyrics (except possibly Zappa).  Not sure where all this is heading but it's interesting - as the quote from John Grierson on the back cover of Henry Cow's 'In Praise of Learning' (1975) states, 'art is not a mirror, it is a hammer'.

Rather than politics, SG's Canción De Alicia is about the impossibility of logic under a repressive dictatorial regime. The initial chorus goes like:

¿Dónde más vas a ir?                   Where else you can go?
Y es que aquí sabes                     'Cause here, you know,
El trabalenguas, traba lenguas      The tongue twister, twists tongues
El asesino te asesina                    The killer kills you
