Another poll where RUSH should easily crush the opposition, although I'm voting for Neil Young again.

I maintain my position that Moving Pictures is a vastly overrated record, and have voted for Saga's The Beginner's Guide to Throwing Shapes, which is one of those albums I never grow tired of.

Zuma. "Cortez the Killer" is an all time favorite. The album as a whole is great. No one does distortion like Neil.

Looks like I'm not a big lover of Canadian music, even I like some albums and really love Les Cinq Saisons. Edited by David_D - July 13 2024 at 09:59 |

I like much music from Canada, but this list is not very representative of my tastes and some of it was what I actually actively dislike in music.
Most of what I like coming from Canada is from Quebec, and a lot of classic stuff is on the folk side and jazz-side. It's a no-brainer vote for Joni Mitchell with Heijira here. Some other classic Canadian fave artists of mine are: Leonard Cohen, Buffy St. Marie, Dionne-Bregent, certain Neil Young, Mort Garson, Sloche, Maneige, Opus-5, Conventum... And for the post-classic stuff, I love post-rock, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor is a particular favourite of mine. |

You may prefer the two previous series' of Canadian singer/songwriters polls (one each for male and female artists) which are coming up again after this current series of polls have run their course.

Probably,
covered lots I like in that Canada Day poll. Not that you would think I was, but not being critical or complaining about this poll, I wrote that because David wrote "Looks like I'm not a big lover of Canadian music, even I like some albums and really love Les Cinq Saisons." Canada's a big country and there's a considerable amount of depth and breadth to Canadian music. The Quebec arts scenes (and music specifically) stand well above the other provinces for me on the whole . When it comes to rock from my province, I think of punk rock, by the way. By the way, the lead singer of D.O.A. (founded in 1978) is Joey Sh*thead, aka Joseph Keithley, is a local politician and member of The Green Party.

I know exactly what you mean. There's only seven artists who really stand out for me in this series of polls - The Band; The Guess Who; Harmonium; Klaatu; Maneige; Joni Mitchell; & Neil Young - mainly because none of them sound remotely like typical AOR Canadian Rock, where (with the exception of Rush) it's sometimes hard to tell the remaining artists apart.
