...

Hi,

I'm not sure we can even NOT call that a rock opera! That is rather unique and .... Wagner on acid? I think I need to hear more!

BTW, Paul, this band is excellent, and their material is not leaning towards the rock song bs at all ... it is moody, has some far out filmography for some of the pieces, and the moody atmosphere is very neat and well done.

I suppose this is not listed quite well in our book, but its material is more classically minded than it is anything else. I would almost say that this is artistically oriented stuff, rather than be some kind of a rock band. Heard "Tripper", "Piramida", the piece from "Leaves" (trying to find if there is more!), and working towards the last album to get a better idea and cover more time, in the band's work.

Beautiful stuff ... really special.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

EXXON      Exxon could have been a great band if it wasn't for THAT voice, which - after eleven albums - is about as welcome as an oil slick. Ouch

FLEUR DE LIS      Let's go to to Copenhagen and wear flowers in our hair for this mysterious psychedelic gem, where you can have your Fleur de Lys cake and eat it too with icing on the top. Who cares if the lyrics are partly in Danish, which only adds to the mysticism and mystique of this cult classic. Smile

FORENINGEN TIL LIVETS BESKYTTELSE     (Translation: Society for the Protection of Life). A hippie folk commune and experimental theatre group centred around Aalborg (something akin to a Danish version of The Polyphonic Spree)  and if Nordic female vocals are your particular kop te and svartbag, then step right in. Smile

FUREKABEN      From Foreningen to Furekaben, it's another obscure hippie folk collective from Denmark. It seems like the early seventies were a good time to be a hippie in Copenhagen, especially if you happened to play a musical instrument too. Smile

Not mystic at all (use Google translate), cf. the link Fleur De Lis.

A collector's edition from 2016 with the full story of the band and album in English reached #1 on the Danish vinyl chart.

GRYDGAARD      Getting into high gear now with three singers and one guitarist (Uffe Grydgaard). That's Neo Prog "band" Grydgaard. Three presenters and one guitarist (Slash). That's Top Gear! Smile

HIMMELRUM       Himmelrum (Translation: Heaven Space) - a Danish Post Rock band who appear to enjoy free camping in post-communist Romania, which I'd imagine falls somewhat short of heaven space. After all, camping is not all it's cracked up to be, as the Top Gear team discover when Jeremy Clarkson "accidentally" sets his caravan on fire. Geek

STE VAN HOLM      An obscure artist even by Danish standards with videos on YouTube viewed on average between 1 and 10 times in five years, meaning the chances of ever hearing Ste Van Holm played on the radio are about as likely as finding Hillary Clinton moonlighting as a barmaid. Shocked

IRON DUKE      Is it a battleship, a train or the Duke of Wellington? No, it's a double salvo of Symphonic Prog from Denmark's answer to ELP, including a rollicking and rocking version of Grieg's Hall of the Mountain King in the epic grand finale. A kind of Fanfare for the Common Man of Copenhagen. Smile

ISBJORG    Heavy duty Danish Neo Prog that should come supplied with Doc Marten boots, a hard hat and fluorescent jacket. Yes, it's Isbjorg, the musical equivalent of Ove Arup, who knows a thing or two about construction, unlike the clueless plonkers in the video below, bringing new meaning to "Danger: Men at Work!" Tongue

LIMP     Ambient music for the Post Rock generation. Okay, if that sounds a bit limp, then it's worth knowing that Limp were the forerunners of Causa Sui, who are more popular in Denmark than Hamlet, probably. Smile

LISERSTILLE     A band name that sounds like an antiseptic mouthwash, but with overwrought vocals and a crescendo of sound, Liserstille are Denmark's answer to Muse!

MANTRIC MUSE     Frantic tantric tentacles from Copenhagen. If you like Ozric Tentacles, then you'll surely love the sound of instrumental Space Rock band Mantric Muse - the best chunk of Space Rock since the theme to Gerry Anderson's UFO.... Space intruder detected..... Maintaining scan for UFO's..... Exclamation

RAINBOW BAND     One of the best Jazz-Rock bands you've never heard, sounding like Blood, Sweat & Tears on steroids.  To see the Midnight Sun, you need to  travel literally to the ends of the earth, above or below the Arctic/Antarctic Circle, but to hear the Midnight Sun, you need travel no further than Denmark - or alternatively, you can listen to them right here.  Smile
