^  Hey Greg, great to see you too! I hope  you're doing all right? I'm glad to be part of your poll. I have plenty of 2023 material but haven't sorted it yet. I have some stuff that doesn't quite meet the criteria e.g. in terms of length and also I listen to various genres that are not of interest here really.

But ok. I was e.g. thinking of a Swiss composer of contemporary classical music. An orchestra from my city that plays contemporary classical and experimental music, has released an album with some of his works last year. On that album they play a new piece (the composer is still active) and three older ones which is in fact of lesser importance with classical music. They are all longer than 10 min. This one here is the shortest (10:25). But I have to warn you, it's pretty intense. lol

Dieter Ammann: Core, performed by Basel Sinfonietta

^ So good to see you, Mila. Happy New Year/Kung Hei Fat Choi. It's absolutely not too late and even if were past the official deadline, I happily would extend it for you. The poll will go up tomorrow. I really like both of your number one and two choices. I would like to hear more from you if you wish to share. In this we can mention as many as we like, but nominate up to two, a number one pick and a number two pick. I'm happy if even after nominations are up people keep on mentioning tracks. It's up to people if they want to listen, but I know that I would like to listen.

Hello everyone and happy New Year! Smile

I just came back from my holidays and stopped by here. It's been a while and I'm pleased to see that the IA-polls are still going on. I hope I'm not late and there are still a few spots available, Greg?

I haven't got round to sorting my 2023 material yet. In fact, I usually sort them by music genre or by origins of the artist/band rather than by release date. But well, here are two acts that came to mind spontanously.

Some jazz fusion from Shanghai.

Canned Dream: Grandma's Funeral (Album: Family, 04.02.2023)

And a new voice bringing fresh air into the French music scene. The song is off her debut album which she released only last year.

Zaho de Sagazan: Ne te regarde pas (Album: La symphonie des éclairs, 31.03.2023)

I actually had i.a. some contemporary classical/experimantal music in mind but I don't want to annoy anyone with too heavy a load, unless someone wishes otherwise. Wink

Thanks Logan, that's fine, it's the album track and the one I uploaded was a live performance which was essentially the same.

Strange that the other video wasn't available in Canada. It's obviously from America but I can watch it in the UK so why can't America's nearest neighbour see it?

^ I forgot to mention. I added the other to the playlist because the one you posted was not showing up for me (it's a region restricted thing, so I could not tell which version you posted). Actually, there is a way that I can post that despite me being unable to watch it. I will try to find an album version that works here. It's often an issue that one video works somewhere and another video works elsewhere.

It seems that it is Saturday Sessions: Grace Potter performs "Good Time" or it might be re-directecd but the uploader did not make that available in Canada. Was that the one you uploaded? Or is it off the album?

I have now replaced it with this longer one, hope this works for all.

Logan, would it be possible to change the Grace Potter video on the playlist to the one I originally posted, please? The one you posted is the official video, but it's actually an edited version of the album track, with a bit of speech added at the beginning and a couple of lines and chorus omitted.

My non-prog album of the year (or one of them) is by De Staat, untitled, but referred to as Red Yellow Blue. It is actually three mini-albums of which each reflect a stylistic tendency of the band: a darker side (Red), a more joyful side (Yellow) and a more contemplative side (Blue). OK, if they wish; it all remains very recognizably De Staat. So, one of each colour:

De Staat  - Burning the Flag (Red):

De Staat - Peace, Love and Profit (Yellow):

De Staat - Running Backwards Into the Future

I could do some listening (great stuff all around) but there's currently so much to do that I can't comment. May comment later on the things I vote for.

Nominations:
(1) Aksak Maboul
(2) Radian
Personally I can't rank my three, but I thought the Deerhoof track may annoy some (though not me), and I put Radian behind Aksak Maboul just because I had Radian already in an earlier interactive poll.

From superficial listening I'm sure that the Pixie Ninja track is for me, but many others are still in the mix, some not having had the deserved attention.

^ Thanks. Squid is kind of unpleasant, but I like it. I could say much the same of Squid Game (although I like Squid Game more still).

By the way, for those with more than two entries, if a number one and number two (seriously, get you minds out of the gutter!) has not been selected by early Monday PST, then I will just go with your first two tracks.

Here are the final two up, that I've not given my two cents on yet:

Greg: Squid:  “The Blades”  Hybrid of post punk and post rock, kind of almost-monotone vocal, but not really, just sort of snarly.  Definitely gets more punky about 2 mins in, as far as the vocals.  The music is not really punky, though, it’s more slip-sliding about, more like post rock.  Closes in a spoken part that fades into a whisper.

Frets N Worries: The Chronicles of Father Robin “The Tale of Father Robin”  I like this genre, prog folk mixed in with classic prog elements.  This is an introduction to a concept release, which I’ve heard here and about, in pieces.  It has a nice medieval feel to it, and does it’s job of making one want to hear more.

^ Thank you very much, Nickie. It's been a real pleasure and I very much appreciate your write-ups on selections. And I hope you find the time to do one ere long.

------------------------------------------------

^^ And thank you, Tennyson. Lovely short track which has now been added to the playlists. No pressure on the listening and voting, by the way, happy to have you on board as a contributor.    That's a popular album in these parts that I still have yet to listen to, so I was very happy to get that taster.

------------------------------------------------

General note: I have been thinking about separating the numbers ones and number twos (sorry if that sounds confusing; not talking liquids and solids) in the poll for those who have multiple nominations (the two choices) making voting for three of the ones, and then maybe having the twos as bonuses. Or maybe two of the ones and one of the twos. :) Sorry, I know it's nice to have that set out from the go, but I do like to improvise a bit.   I think three ones and one two, which sounds a bit like learning to dance.

Thanks to everyone who has participated.

Thank you, Logan, for putting the poll together and the playlist (also for changing my Edenya choice, not something I usually do, once I make my submissions).
