Music Like Bubu

Just heard from the toob the album "Anabelas", and it is excellent. 

Possibly a tough listen for the "prog" folks, as this is more classically oriented in design and composition with some jazz flashes here and there, making it something that you might expect from folks that are music majors in college. 

The weird thing here, is that this brought back memories of when I first heard Frank Zappa in 1968 ... and everyone was saying what kind of crap was that? And now, anyone saying that, is not a music fan at all! It's hard to not say "influences", because this album goes in its own way and it is not pretentious ... as in "here is the solo" kind of thing, but it leaves a lot of moments for a lot of other instruments to shine, and some of these moments belong to the violin, and saxophone ... used in a very different way, than is usually found is rock music, which is almost always ... just play the melody. Here, I suppose I could say "counter-melody" though I am not a music major at all. Some violin moments are to die for ... just special!

Wonderful listen all around ... and just when you think it is about to go conventional, it turns your ears inside out. 

Really great material, and it is a sad thing that "progressive" and "prog" folks might not have an ear for this kind of material because it is not a format, and is very free form, in its design, though some themes repeat, as if trying to make sure you know where you are, but in the end, you don't even need that ... the trip alone with the music is worth it.

Like the previous three Argentinian bands, this is extremely enjoyable, and not at all within the "sound" and the "format" of most things listed in a top anything these days. It's easy to say that many of those things sound all the same ... and in 4 different Argentinian bands ... this is AWESOME. They do not sound the same, and are clean and very well presented. It's just a shame that we don't have more ears here, to appreciate true musicianship the world over, instead of a commercial sounding material.

Just amazing! Brave New World is the first book I read, when I was younger, that got me really interested in reading books. It is just an amazing book and an amazing song! I'll make sure to listen to that full album!

The team here only seems to wake up when they have a chance to take shots at me. In general, and you can check the other Argentine thread, these folks don't always comment on music that is not listed in their favorite top ten.

That's not an insult. That's a comment, about a very obvious style for being a part of many threads, that is very visible, but is not usually mentioned ... 

Personally, if I fail in one area or another, as I did on Bubu's history ... didn't think to check it at all ... I appreciate anyone's comments to get me set right. It's a part of learning and growing. The only sad thing is that some folks think that everything in life comes with sugar and cream and blankets, when in fact, it comes in a thousand different ways, many of which we don't always appreciate.

There is, really, no right or wrong in the arts. There is only appreciation. My bigger concern is the number of folks that consider themselves progressive, but will not bother commenting on Bubu (for example) because if you check their lists and tastes they are in areas that are very different. Sort of like ... I'm still progressive even when I don't say something about anyone else. 

Progressive is all inclusive. It just bothers me a wee bit when folks can only listen to some things and ignore others that they obviously do not consider progressive or valuable. Many of you might not remember it, but I can tell you in the 60's how people felt about Frank Zappa ... same thing! And in the end, we remember the music, not the folks that did not have an appreciation for other musics! I don't think that is an insult ... when we see it over and over again, and the only ones upset with the comment are some of the folks that are the guiltiest. They have the right, I'm sure, but at least be polite and honest about it.
