Cristi, The thread was about Hot Takes. Not one thing was said "except for not to be included." That's my hot take. Don't care what you think should be posted in a thread.

I wasn't tell you what to post and what not to, just that a big 6 conversation on this thread is not a good idea (not a good idea in general if you ask me, but anyway...).

It's a thread about "Hot Takes." In general a thread on such a subject might not be a good idea. One member called Rush "trite" and "uninspired" when they attempted to play Prog. That's a take that could get the hackles up on big Rush fan. I disagree with the take as I think Rush's best stuff was when they went all out Prog. So be it. That's his take.

I could have said Neil Peart is overrated as a drummer, David Gilmour is not much more than an average guitarist who gets rated highly because he has a decent melodic sense and good tone and that any rock guitarist who is said to be the greatest would purely on technical ability get dusted by a third year classical guitar student at say Juliard or Peabody.

Another hot take:
There should be an option to post album reviews on ProgArchives.com without a numeric (star) rating attached.

They are the best known Prog bands by the general public that listens to classic rock, who all had success releasing actual Prog albums that went on to be certified either Gold, Platinum or Multi-Platinum while headlining tours and filling arenas.

King Crimson was ground breaking, but they did not come close to the above bands success. Tull had the success but, I don't think was as Proggy as the above bands.

That's my hot take.

There's a whole thread on this subject, look for it if you're interested.

Maybe, but the highs on The Wall are better than the highs on TFC. Smile

better how?

At least it's shorter

For some bizarre reason I've always found it a more satisfying listen and less rambling than The Wall.

Frank Zappa is the greatest progressive genius to hit rock music.

The Lamb is Genesis’ best album.

The Strawberry Alarm Clock was as progressive a band as there was in their time.

Steve Hackett has been history’s most consistently high quality representative/proponent of progressive rock music.

Mother Focus is a great Focus album.

Novella is my favorite Renaissance album.

Storia di un minuto is not as good as people make it out to be.

Magma are even more impressive live/in concert.

Wobbler is a retro prog band.

Prog rock of the 21st Century may not be as innovative or “fresh” as musics of the “classic era” (1970s) but I think it is better than that of the 1970s.

Miles Davis was never a progressive rock artist, his genius was that he surrounded himself with younger, more experimental/cutting edge artists who had more rock proclivities/tendencies/interests.

If prog was a nut it would be Walnut.
If prog was a color it would be Purple.
If prog was a fish it would be Halibut.
If prog was a beer it would be a Double IPA.
If prog was a vegetable it would be Brussel Sprouts.

Of the classic ELP albums (those first 5) Trilogy is the worst

Let's see...

More is one of my favorite Pink Floyd albums.
Awake is my favorite Dream Theater album.
Genesis - ATTW3 is a great album, a favorite of mine.
Going for the One is an overrated mess of an album.
I enjoy Fates Warning more than Dream Theater these days.
David Gilmour's second album About Face is underappreciated, deserves better.

Alternative music is not prog
King Crimson didn't invent prog rock

No, King Crimson didn't invent prog because no one band or artist did.
It's only a clone band if a band sets out to try to sound as much as a band as possible. I think Unifaun might be the only band who qualifies in that regard (as a Genesis clone although I never actually heard them).
What was the best decade for TD then? The 80s?
I won't comment on the others.

Re TD I would say the 80's (up to 1986) but then there are some great albums released in the 00's as well.

We agree re KC then!
