When I was a tween and young teen I loved to watch music videos late night. In fact that's how I discovered Kate Bush, Laurie Anderson and various others. For a classic music video, David Bowie's Ashes to Ashes was one favourite of mine, and for more modern ones, I really like various Weyes Blood ones (especially "Do You Need My love?"), Sigur Ros's Glósóli, CocoRosie's Lemonade and I love the music video for Beach House's "Wishes" which was directed by Eric Wareheim and features Ray Wise as the coach (who I am a fan of from Twin Peaks).
What are some of yours, and please limit to one video per post if embedding as it can cause issues for some when there are lots of embeds. |

This is one of the greatest? Okay, it's debatable. But it's one of THOSE videos where you know the guys had a gas of a time during the shoot.
One of the funniest parts is unintentional: Roddy's keytar strap comes loose, and it cuts right before he can throw it back over his shoulder.
Btw, there's no bad language in the song. There are a few quick cuts to some surgical procedures. I assume that's why it gets the "explicit" tag. |

A-Ha - Take On Me. Incredibly well known but beautifully done.
Have to admit that ELP 'performing' at the Montreal Olympic Stadium for Fanfare For The Common Man made a massive impression on me. All bomber jackets and split knee jeans, it was filmed in the middle of winter, apparently it was so cold they had to do it in several takes. in 1977 at the age of 15 this was my first exposure to prog rock as it was. For the 90's I would pick Mansun's Tax Loss, filmed at a London train station, they chucked 40,000 pounds in notes off the surrounding concourse and filmed it. They were later given a severe reprimand by the Met Police and as such made the national news. Gained them great publicity though and worth the 40 grand all day long!

Interesting seeing the choices.
While my first one was rather surreal and absurd one, and even rather magical to me, "starring" an actor (Ray Wise who was in Twin Peaks as Leland Palmer), my second one will also "star" an actor, one who I have been very into, this time Robbie Coltrane whose Cracker was one of my favourite TV shows. It's not my favourite Kate Bush song, it was her video for "The Man With the Child in His Eyes" (I so love this song) that first made me fall for her (and loved "Breathing"), and she features a favourite actor of mine with Donald Sutherland in a music video for a song and video I love, "Cloudbursting" (which was conceived by Terry Gilliam and Kate Bush), but this "Deeper Understanding" will not be as known and I find it to be of interest. |

I'm not a fan of Aphex Twin particularly, but some of the better known songs (and videos) are very interesting indeed. So here is Aphex Twin - Windowlicker, with one of the best beginnings of a music video ever IMO:

As kid I was much impressed by Roger Glover's Love is All (sung by Dio), apperently more a hit in our country than elsewhere...: |

And one of the most intense close-up videos ever made; as such rather simple, but so powerful! RIP Sinéad. Edited by suitkees - November 02 2023 at 10:33 |
