BIG BROTHER & THE HOLDING COMPANY      One of the Big Four psychedelic bands from San Francisco, alongside the Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Jefferson Airplane. The unforgettable earthy blues singer Janis Joplin led Big Brother & the Holding Company on their first two albums before leaving the band in 1968 to pursue a solo career, just two years before her untimely death in October 1970 at the age of 27, and following just one month after the tragic loss of Jimi Hendrix at the same age - making them two early members of the so-called "27 Club". Big Brother & the Holding Company went on to record four more albums without Janis, but it's always their first two albums with Janis that they'll be forever remembered.  Broken Heart

BLACK PEARL      The mother of all Funk Rock bands from San Francisco with a "sex machine" singer who modelled himself on James Brown. Black Pearl were once described as a band who "crank out some hard rockin' psych-rock music with the most ferocious drumbeats you've heard in a while", and having just listened to their two albums of pounding, pulsating rhythms, who am I to disagree!? Smile

MIKE BLOOMFIELD (1943-1981)       A Chicago blues guitarist who had early stints with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and The Electric Flag before branching out on his own, but it's the best-selling Super Session album with Stephen Stills and Al Kooper  for which he'll always be remembered, along with the sequel: The Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield & Al Kooper (or Super Session 2). Sadly, Mike Bloomfield died at the wheel of his car from an apparent drugs overdose in 1981 and his unintentionally ironic final album "Crusing for a Bruising" was released the same day his death was announced.  Broken Heart Unhappy

DAVID BLUE  (1941-1982)      A Folk Rock singer from Providence, Rhode Island who later moved to New York City where he was subsequently signed up by the two major Laurel Canyon labels of the time: Jac Holzman's Electra & David Geffen's Asylum Records, who both know a thing or two about music and recognise a good artist when they hear one. Something of an unknown legend, David Blue never quite managed the big commercial breakthrough during his brief lifetime, having died of a heart attack aged 41 whilst out jogging in Washington Square Park, New York City. Thanks to the modern wonders of the Internet though, David Blue's gentle folk refrains are destined to live on forever.  Broken Heart

BLUE MOUNTAIN EAGLE     A Country-tinged, Psychedelic Rock band that sprang up from the remains of the New Buffalo Springfield formed by drummer Dewey Martin, who were flying high for a brief time, supporting Santana, Jimi Hendrix, Love and Pink Floyd amongst others, but then had their wings clipped by Atlantic Records when their single and album failed to take off. Confused

KARLA BONOFF     It seems like Karla Bonoff has been around All My Life, just like Linda Ronstadt for whom Karla wrote several songs, including "Someone to Lay Down Beside Me", "Lose Again", "If He's Ever Near" and of course, "All My Life", a duet with Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville, and If you're a fan of Linda Ronstadt, then I know you're going to love the music of Karla Bonoff too.
