Must admit I was into prog in the 70s so knowledge of more modern stuff is a bit more sketchy. There was an amazing bill in North Wales recently including Cherie Currie and Dare, a band that had as one of its members celeb TV scientist Brian Cox. Ive been catching up with some of their offerings and been highly impressed. Why isn't this band up in the top league?

Are you asking why Dare (Darren Wharton) isn't more known & famous?
I don't know. Not enough touring and promotion. They never followed trends, went under the radar. Could be. I enjoy them quite a bit.

Hi,
I'm not sure that everyone in rock music is into it to get more known or famous. There are many bands where their work is, shall we say, part time, because many of their members have other work that they do during the day and a lot of their time is relegated to the evenings and holidays, to get some music done, and very few concerts during that time ... a perfect example? Djam Karet whose members are tied up in a lot of outside projects that are not necessarily related to their music and band. One was running a record store and label last time I saw it. Another was doing jingles and music for various entertainment work. Another had a day job, I believe it was in programming of some sort ... and it leaves little time for music, and yet, their last album is fantastic. It depends on their "inner" circle, and how tight and together they are. I'm not sure that TODAY, expecting a band to do concerts all over is doable, and wise. And that leaves folks at home doing the best they can. However the "dark side" of this is that the music ends up missing an element in it that has been the biggest foundation of rock music ... the public, although I would state that the last 20 to 30 years, this has come to be totally ridiculous with the "fans" thinking that THEIR band has to do what they want ... it's no longer about the band itself. In your case, I imagine that the folks are too busy doing something else ... and it isn't any different than a parent trying to get their kid to stay in school and get a degree and perhaps get some work worthwhile with a smidgen of benefits ... something that the road is not likely to have a lot of these days! I don't blame any of them for not taking "the road" ... it's an endless path to nowhere!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Nearly all 'modern prog' (to me thats any band that came along post 80's) is like that and there is a lot of it around and a very limited audience. It would be easier to list bands where they've quit their day jobs than the other way round!

The original post is not very clear what is the discussion about.
If it's about Darren Wharton's band Dare, this should be in the general music section because Dare is not a prog band. It's a melodic rock band. The thread creator should clarify what's the point of the thread, what do we have to do here?
