Kate Bush of course -that Iron Maiden album is probably their strongest, and it's got some undeniable classics on it (Hallowed Be Thy Name is my favorite track of theirs), but I can't listen to an album from start to finish featuring Bruce Dickinson on vocals. |

Not much to choose from - Iron Maiden gets the vote in the end.
So Venom made the list (whoever created this found out early Venom was influential probably ![]() Toto made a great album in 1982. Even Whitesnake did some great work that year.

Uriah Heep's best years were already over by 1982 with driving force Ken Hensley no longer in the band. You've just given me an idea.... When I finally reach the end of these 1001 Albums polls in the year 2004, maybe I should do another series of polls for all of the great non-prog albums that weren't included in the 1001 Albums book.

That was brutal ![]() As for Venom, yes, they were influential for early thrash and early black metal, but in the end they were copying Motorhead and added the satanic image(ry) and lyrics for shock value (back in the early 80s, it was shocking). Accept were influential for early speed & thrash as well, much more friendly on the ear. ![]() Also the EP Mercyful Fate debuted with in 1982 was also influential as was their full length album a year later.

Hardly the first time that we disagree on the value of an album. It took some time for me to grow into The Dreaming, but it is now one of my very favourite Kate Bush albums.

I can Accept that. After all, who can forget Udo Dirkschneider (great name!), although some of us here probably wish we could forget him. ![]() |

It may appear that I'm not a Kate Bush fan by that pitifully low rating, but in my defence, I have given Hounds of Love, Aerial and Fifty Words for Snow a full 5-star rating. The Dreaming has always been more of a nightmare album for me to listen to all the way through though.

At least I knew you liked various Kate Bush albums very much, and I can understand The Dreaming being much harder listen for you. I did not like it at first on the whole, but it grew on me over time. I had to concentrate on certain tracks first, and now I can appreciate the whole album. Sometimes If I can get into just one of the tracks or even part of it, then the whole album will start to open up for me. Kate Bush is often quirky, but this is quirkiness is more abstract, experimental/ avant-gardish I think than other albums. It was for me a grower and one I did not care much for 30 years ago but now love. For many years The Kick Inside clearly was my Kate Bush favourite album. |

^ Somehow, I get the feeling the music contained within won't be much better than the tasteless album title and terrible cover.

Iron Maiden.
Since others are sharing picks of 82, that aren't a poll choice. Allan Holdsworth released I.O.U, a fusion masterpiece that still sounds fresh today in 1982. ![]() |

yeah, pretty awful cover, probably inspired by Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers which also inspired Motley Crue's debut album cover. I don't know what "balls to the wall" means, is it something German that does not translate well to English?! ![]() ![]() The album is from 1983 and is a very good one, ugly cover or not.

Listed below is a reminder of what the 1982 prog poll looked like, with only one album (by Kate Bush) included in either of these two 1982 polls.

The number of albums I'd vote over The Dreaming worldwide and of any time is somewhere around one, maybe two.
