Phantasmagloria is one of my favorites of 2023! And a great discovery! I didn't knew them!

 But...

It is not RIO Avant Prog!
Does anyone agree with that?

How can it be changed?

Agree. It doesn't sound RIO to me.

Also, The Dreams that Stuff Are Made Of was better than Phantasmagloria for me. Although Phantasmagloria is good, I was expecting more after the very interesting debut.

I don't think I ever heard of this band before but just looked them up just now. Why does every band from New Jersey seem to have a lead singer who sounds like the guy from Mars Volta? :P

Anyway, Rate Your Music has avant as a sub category for both releases. Maybe they don't sound like other avant bands but so far I can kind of see why they have that label (listening to a little bit of their first one now). So no, maybe not RIO but on here the category is RIO/Avant which means a band can fall into either of those (and in this case probably closer to avant than RIO).

Anyway, it's cool to discover bands who are almost in my backyard. Wink

I was curious since I hadn't heard of this band before. They are really good. I can say they are avantgardish but not RIO. Eclectic prog might be a better category for them.

I agree, I also think of them as eclectic.
