I've been going through a bit of a purple patch recently, so what better time than now to feature Welsh band Magenta - my all-time favourite Neo Prog band. There are more shades of Magenta than a Dulux colour chart, all of which feature ubiquitous founder member Rob Reed, including Cyan, Chimpan A, Kiama, Trippa, and the Fyreworks, as well as solo albums by Magenta band members, Christina Booth, Chris Fry and of course, Rob Reed. As you may be aware, I have a special affection for female-fronted Symphonic Neo Prog, so I may have gone a bit overboard with the five star ratings (again). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The title track from Magenta's brand new album! ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - April 06 2024 at 05:25 |

I have both SEVEN and 27 CLUB. I was able to get the DVD audio deluxe editions and listening to both those albums in 5.1 is truly something. I feel I like SEVEN the best. I love how much of the sound is inspired by early Genesis.
Christina boothe can sing her ass off. Both albums that I have are of course incredibly conceptual and you have to definitely be in the mood for them. |

David Longdon steps off the Big Big Train and joins Christina Booth and Peter Jones for a very special Live performance of Steve Hackett's Spectral Mornings, from Magenta's 2015 Angels and Damned tour.

Thanks, Paul! Yes should have tried to hire Christina Booth to replace Jon Anderson, instead of going through the tribute-band singers! (from what I've heard about Chris Squire, he would have had a hard time keeping his hands off of her!)
I love their interpretation of "Wond'rous Stories!" |

Yes, that's it! You've nailed it! As much as I love the last three albums by YES, what they need now is a frontwoman who sounds like Jon Anderson, just like Ann Marie Nacchio in the video below. ![]() Christina Booth or that other Welsh songstress Charlotte Church would have been perfect for YES.

I think Christina (or 'Tina' as Rob Reed calls her) has had a few health issues but thankfully has come through them by looks of it. We Are Legend is probably my favourite Magenta album closely followed by Seven. They are all worth checking out. Rob Reed is a very talented composer , his brother helps with lyrics and you also have the fantastic guitarist Chris Fry. He has stormed it every time I've seen them live. The first time was just after the release of Seven at the top studio of the now defunct London Astoria back in the early 00's. They were the first band on stage for a 2 day festival and there were barely half a dozen people in the room. Christina was incredibly pretty in those days and I like to think I caught her eye! . I was hooked in a heartbeat and have enjoyed their music ever since.

I've listened to some of the more r4ecent magenta but not much. I had listened to The White Witch a month or two ago. I had considered doing a female singer-songwriter poll not long ago with songs from Christina Booth's Broken Lives & Bleeding Hearts (which would seem more Crimson than Magenta) and The Light. Unfortunately when I look up Christina Booth on youtube the first results ar e a horrible murder case (different person).
"You've got yourself a gun, To prove you're number one, But can you pull the trigger? There's a bullet with my name, That doesn't mean you win the game. Cos I've got something bigger... You've got yourself a war, But what you fighting for, I hope you can deliver. I know you love to kill and I guess you need the thrill, But I've got, Something bigger...." |

Magenta recorded and released Revolutions without the usual fanfare of official singles or videos to accompany the album, but what a magnificent debut! It's a double album (very rare for a first album), so I may as well start at the beginning with the first part of the first suite: Children of the Sun, which is possibly inspired by Mike Oldfield. ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - May 03 2023 at 03:51 |

^ Interestingly Wiki lists Helmut Kollen (Triumvirat) as an 'identified' member of the Twenty Seven Club. He died on 3 May 1977 (hint hint, update list before Doug sees the thread
