Le Parc sounds even better after hearing it again today. That's the first time I've listened to the album in over thirty years! I'm heading into uncharted territory now, as I've only heard three Tangerine Dream albums beyond 1985 (Underwater Sunlight; Optical Race & Lily on the Beach) with the lush Green Desert album coming up next, but before that, a brief interlude..... This seems like the perfect time to feature the albums of Johannes Schmoelling, whose solo career took off almost from the moment he left Tangerine Dream:- 1986: Johannes Schmoelling - Wuivend Riet - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mSkK6eus75Y2uqlR4ZQO89F9mXuhH5Mys 1988: Johannes Schmoelling - The Zoo of Tranquility - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nhboo7paHBUeqdi36lr78JJ8whsoeQrK4 1990: Johannes Schmoelling - White Out - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lrlCLx5OXhNMU2nbxYCtTzNFsmgyz9Ipk 1995: Johannes Schmoelling - Lieder Ohne Worte (Songs without Words) - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kvyuXAYAHBTc5R6TDqKOL0YC7j334RIvc 2003: Johannes Schmoelling - Recycle or Die - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nfKLEC3WyhCr7lkDbmhIoaLlyngLwepFU 2006: Johannes Schmoelling - Instant City - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kx4TXmVymSAYYxClK4GawXYUg56Md1-8s 2008: Johannes Schmoelling - Early Beginnings - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_l9Ehj6A-qJ-Sq2fVfyyUj1LcUUz4dxtV0 2009: Johannes Schmoelling - A Thousand Times - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lXyT_LH51_4L7kpSBJaksG_mkYK-NFdxk 2011: Johannes Schmoelling - Time and Tide - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nZ994VKMxpvEECzXkAoP2NvTnbnFmiOmM 2016: Johannes Schmoelling - A Thousand Times, Part 2 - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mziN9oN0e8MhYS79ccYOjLNBg9CrrD8FU 2017: Johannes Schmoelling - Diary of a Common Thread - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mU54bCRToPK3v4qPt6GeQvpCsHODm3fnQ 2018: Schmoelling & Waters - The Immortal Tourist - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nU5P2UNGvMolgaeFmJfkhUlbshz_xnYDw 2022: Johannes Schmoelling - Iter Meum - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lruEtkftAfXB4c55mnYAFwaBlJixp5tUs Tangerine Dream albums with Johannes Schmoelling:- 1980: Tangram - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQpAJUZeIAY 1981: Quichotte (Pergamon) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aOHeg3XitM 1981: Thief (soundtrack) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUSBecv08D8 1982: White Eagle - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJudKHrNg6M 1982: Logos Live - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nY2Rlw3bRoM 1983: Wavelength (soundtrack) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63IV_ihl7OQ 1983: Hyperborea - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKRpSLMRY8Q 1984: Risky Business (soundtrack) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t19pVyWzEZo 1984: Firestarter (soundtrack) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQAf57MGPm4 1984: Flashpoint (soundtrack) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bPUS3AMEMQ 1984: Poland: The Warsaw Concert - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsApXLYXdb4&t=6s 1985: Heartbreakers (soundtrack) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZoGT6nUybk 1986: Legend (soundtrack) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84jvSHmXsuA Edited by Psychedelic Paul - January 26 2024 at 02:27 |

I bought Le Parc on vinyl for the first time (!!!) when Culture Factory reissued it as a gatefold that opens to display the legendary photograph of Chris Franke's ballroom-studio and all that gear to salivate over! (The gatefold is cropped by 10%.) |

I recall Le Parc was the last Tangerine Dream album I bought on the original vinyl. I'll keep a look-out for the Firestarter album the next time my local record store has a fire sale.

What do you think of post-Froese TD, i.e., "The Quantum Years"?

One of the band's absolute peaks: four wholly original sides of music that vary greatly with a kaleidoscopic intensity. featuring loads of interwoven sequences, melodic tapestries, ominous textures and even the "rock track" in "Rare Bird"! For a while in the mid-'80s, Poland was a bit hard to find in my sector of the US, and nearly achieved "white whale" status till I happened upon the Relativity cassette in a chain store that was well out of the way. (Yes, really.)
Heartbreakers is a fantastic score. Nothing is recycled from another album nor "alternate" cues to be found. The score shares the same sonic palette as Poland, so doubters who are put off the film's tone and topic may want to give the album a deep listen. It's brilliant. 5 stars in my book.

I'm not in doubt, Paul, who's the most humorous person on the PA forums. |

Many thanks. I have a long drive today, and you have inadvertently just chosen music for me to listen to -- those would be great for my drive and I did want something other than early period for it (much as I like it). |

Thief was the only Tangerine soundtrack I bought on the original vinyl. I've listened to seven soundtracks on this thread so far and Thief still remains my favourite Tangerine Dream movie score by far. I still have at least another fifty TD soundtracks to listen to though, so who knows if Thief will still remain my favourite score when I've listened to them all.

I like Le Parc, so I might join you there. And I often am going astray in les parcs and les forums, but as often as I wander off, I usually wander back. I like free-slowing discussions, especially when one can always bring things back on topic if one cares to by saying something on topic (segues work well and I like a little subtlety).
I haven't been participating here, but I love lots of Tangerine Dream (one of my favourite bands). Cristi, what are your favourite Tangerine Dream albums? Edited by Logan - August 21 2022 at 08:36 |

Yes, but I can hardly criticise David for going off-topic when I'm the self-proclaimed king of off-topic-ness. Anyway, I'll be back on-topic again soon when I'll be taking a walk in Le Parc.

Secret Oyster are Denmark's best-kept secret. I should go Straight to the Krankenhaus for that lame joke.
