ATTENTION! This is not for the faint-hearted! All jokes aside, fellow forum users, please enjoy this exhausting (and I hope, exhaustive) playlist of some of the longest recorded songs I have ever come across - compiled in a playlist that goes on for some forty hours, more or less. What do you think? Any new names? And most importantly, what more could be added? Any recommendation would be highly appreciated. Prog on and enjoy the great music! Cheers! |

^Six Degrees is there. The Fates Warning suite was never recorder as one continuous piece in the studio or live so I can't really have it (considered it while making the playlist). The rest is pretty nice, thanks.

Does it include Green Carnation: Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness? 60.07
ie it's one song of exactly an hour in length... well, I've just done the 1st 200 (!) tracks and it's not there so... enjoy!!

Ah, ah... Nice endeavor! Didn't have time yet to listen to the playlist... but I browsed through it and I notice it is very Anglo-saxon oriented (with the few exceptions, of course). And, does it have to be prog? Anyway, a couple of other suggestions that pop up into my mind: - Ange - Caricatures - Ange - Capitaine coeur de miel - Atoll - L'araignée-mal - Banco del mutuo soccorso - Canto nomade per un prigioniero politico - Focus - Hamburger Concerto - Frutería Toñi - TV-1 Elevado a Ñ - Golden Earring - Eight Miles High - Grobschnitt - Rockpommel's Land Just to start... ...and, if it doesn't have to be necessarily prog (but somehow related) and when you're looking for longer pieces (55 minutes, in this case): - Noir désir - Nous n'avons fait que fuir |

Really? I’m very surprised if that wasn’t included. I thought that was the most infamous long prog song in the world. It’s the first thing most prog people I know (regardless of whether they’ve even listened to it) name, when it comes to a long track - whether they’re being negative or positive. |

well, it must be (in)famous if even the member of PA's Prog Metal Team who professes to know very little about Prog Metal, has heard of it!! Seriously, I didn't see it included on the list down to 200, so I thought it worth asking the question.... Have you thought about adding John Cage's Organ 2/ASLSP? It is due to continue playing until 2640: |

Great feedback from all! And some fabulous suggestions which I should dig into and eventually add to this monstrous playlist.

If you want to branch out from prog, the ambient/drone realms are full of this type of stuff. I will offer Nanocyborg Uberholocaust (written in the much more unfriendly NǽnøĉÿbbŒrğ VbëřřĦōlökäävsŦ). It seems their later stuff has more normal track lengths but their early stuff has songs over two hours in length (including a 6 hour and 44 one on their debut [Doom Apocalypse X, The Ultimate Fate Of The Universe (Part IX: The Photon Era)]) and a 7 hour 27 minute one (God Is A Systems Architect And The Multiverse Is An Infinitely Recursive Architectural Simulator (∞ ly)) on another album.

Some might suggest he has already branched out from prog, by including a track from Lou Reed’s “Lulu”. I was mightily impressed to see its inclusion in the playlist! I love “Lulu”! |

Some more lengthy tracks. I'll list the artist.
Bubblemath French TV Thieves' Kitchen The Psychedelic Ensemble Izz A lot of fusion is absent. I see Coltrane and Davis listed, so here's a few more artists. Antoine Fafard Pat Metheny Group. The album "The Way Up" is one song. And he has many lengthy songs. Dewa Budjana Phil Miller In Cahoots Helmet of Gnats Jean-Luc Ponty |

Great suggestions from all, many thanks! I am still going through most of them, so this is why some of the bands the fellow forum users mentioned are still absent. But, nevertheless, keep them coming, I am curious to see what more could be added! The playlist stands at 440 tracks now! The only rule is: No songs under 10 minutes should be present.

Impressive undertaking. Very nice of you to share.
I saw Firebears by the Tea Club but notCreature (27:46). And also called Creature (21:19) by Korean band Donyang Gozupa. They are not on PA. Edited by mathman0806 - March 22 2022 at 18:25 |

My bad. I only scrolled through the first 100 or so, and the vast majority were prog (or at least on this site) and mostly others were suggesting prog as well.
