Which one would you take with you on a desert island, should you be allowed to only choose between these two records? I know I will certainly have 'First Utterance'. |

First Utterance for sure. When I saw this poll my brain registered FU's competition as Roy Harper's Stormcock (the stormy cock surely would beat the stormy watch for me).

First Utterance though I would have voted Stormcock if it was the option.

First Utterance is a good album, but I love that period of Jethro Tull.

I don't like Stormwatch that much, but I'd pick almost anything over First Utterance.

I voted for Stormwatch, for it is free of that primitive, lo-fi early 70s mixing/production First Utterance suffers from.

Both are great albums for different reasons. First Utterance is more experimental and unique - a success in its own extremities. On a desert island however, I would get more out of Stormwatch, and hence my vote. More uplifting and inspirational.

Stormwatch. I think it's one of Tull's more underrated albums and it has aged very well.
First Utterance is a very distinctive and adventurous album, but I think that it is rather overrated. |

Stormwatch. Not my favourite Tull, but First Utterance is too difficult listening for me.

I prefer Comus but voted for Jethro Tull, as listening to First Utterance whilst all alone on a desert island would no doubt give me nightmares.

I like Stormwatch (probably in my top five Tull albums) but I have never heard the Comus album. The album cover is beyond disturbing and I've only just realised that what I thought were shoulders could be the hind haunches of an animal given birth to a whatever it is. Yep great.

First Utterance is an exhilarating far out fun-ride and pure progfolk perfection - while Stormwatch is "up there" with Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die!, War Child and the rest of Tull's forgettable three star albums.
