a very impressive list, Paul. congratulations. may I suggest in the letter Q, the band QUARKSPACE (and its' later & current evolution, CHURCH OF HED ). I would also recommend OUR SOLAR SYSTEM from Sweden & THE MYRRORS from Tucson, Arizona, I believe. all of these artists I have played on SPACE PIRATE RADIO and feel they would be appropriate here.

Thanks for the kind words and great suggestions. I just finished adding Quarkspace, Church of Hed, Our Solar System and The Myrrors to my list. Hopefully, no one noticed that I initially forgot to include Robert Calvert of Hawkwind in my listings.

A late entry for MANUEL GOTTSCHING (Ash Ra Tempel & Ashra): a spacey artist who was overlooked due to a temporal warp in the space-time continuum. That's my excuse anyway. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

His name is actually "Göttsching". And if you don't have an "ö" on the keyboard you have to add an "e" after the "o", so it would have to be "Goettsching". The same is true for "ä" and "ü". This is not nitpicking; it can lead to serious misunderstandings in German. Example: "Geächtet" means "ostracized" and "geachtet" means "well respected", so just the opposite.

^ Thanks Friede. I knew that, but I don't have an "ö" on my keyboard.

Well, then add the "e" after the "o". The German umlauts actually developed from diphthongs like "oe"; at first the "e" was written above the "o". In latter times this "e" was reduced to two dots.

I've never seen Manuel Gottsching's name spelt with an "e" after the "o".

In the times of the typewriter it became a common international rule that umlauts like "ä", "ö" and "ü" had to be written "ae", "oe" and "ue" on typewriters without umlauts. There are actually lots of German family names that exist in both versions, like "Müller/Mueller", "Förster/Foerster" or "Krämer/Kraemer". So you may find a "Christine Müller" and a "Christine Mueller" in the phone book, and both are different persons. The pronunciation is the same though.

^ I've got a better idea - I'll copy and paste "Göttsching" with the umlaut and edit it into my listings.

You could root around in the Windows app charmap.exe, or refer to this handy guide for obscure characters: Hint: the characters may be generated by holding down the ALT key, and using the number pad at the far right of a conventional keyboard to tap in the code from that list e.g. ALT+130 gives é (small e with an acute accent).

Thanks. I did it the easy way by copying and pasting "Göttsching" from Friede's text.

The band Gong, with High T Moonweed (Tim Blake) on synth, channelled space-rock at times!

An underground British band has just mysteriously appeared due to a rather fortunate time-warp in the spacetime continuum.
