George Benson is not a singer/songwriter, he's a jazz guitarist.
Also that's not his first album.

George Benson is also a singer who writes his own songs.  Giblet Gravy was George Benson's first truly solo album. His two previous albums were credited to The George Benson Jazz Quartet. Smile

He's still a jazz guitarist/musician, he writes he's own songs, by this logic Robert Plant is a singer/songwriter, Peter Gabriel and David Gilmour.

Metalhead musicians write their own songs, are they singer/songwriters?

I was trying to avoid including the obvious prog favourites, and besides, Peter Gabriel, David Gilmour & Robert Plant are all British, not American. Captain Obvious strikes again! Tongue

I don't know if you understand my point or if you are just trolling me as usual.

Or you could do some more research on this genre of music and see what it is about. Otherwise you would not be listing jazz musicians.

^ It could've been worse - I could've included Miles Davis instead of George Benson. Big smile

Miles David is not a singer
thank you for continuously trolling me, I don't know why I am even trying to reason with you.

Well, maybe Miles Davis was actually singing but somebody kept putting a trumpet in his mouth. Where's Abe Vigoda and Fred Gwynne?

Lots of artists I like in this list, yet I have none of these debut albums.  With, say, Tim Buckley, I have his following five albums in my collection.

I have Tim Buckley's first five albums in a box set, although I'd gladly give away his unlistenable "Lorca" album. Confused

I've never heard of Abe Vigoda and I thought Fred Gwynne was in The Munsters. Smile

As I already have it, I wont request a second copy.  I like that album very much, was a grower, but then I expect that I commonly appreciate considerably more avant-oriented, unorthodox, experimental, out-there music than you do.  I think Fox news listeners tend to have quite conservative (in their way) tastes generally. ;)

Would have chosen Neil Young and his first lp ,   but from the list probably Steven Stills though for me Jackson Browne, Crosby, Newman, Taylor are right there also.

btw....I also have to say that Benson does not belong on that list...most if not all of those are rock or folk rock people and he's not .

But of course he is from Canada.  Leonard Cohen would beat him for me in a male Canadian debut poll.

I'm in agreement with you on Stephen Stills and Cristi's in agreement with you regarding George Benson. Wink
