Probably not what was intended by the OP, but this has become an amusing thread.

That is a picture of Blind Willie McTell, not Blind Willie Johnson ("Nobody's Fault But Mine"). And you forgot.... Edited by The Dark Elf - May 06 2021 at 03:02 |

In any case, Greta Van Halen doesn't even really play blues.

Im with you on this one. My one criticism was indeed the production which makes certain parts of the record pop real loud. Its nice to see another fan here!

Ummm... literally NOBODY gives them pass. Here's a challenge for you. Find a SINGLE article on the internet that mentions that band that doesn't also mention Led Zeppelin...

Are they getting ridiculed and mocked for sounding like Led Zep? No, not at all. The other bands were and I've always thought they did not deserve that. That's what bothered me.

Absolutely. Especially when you consider just how original Led Zeppelin themselves were. They were essentialyl the musical equivalent of creation ex nihilo. They had a sound completely and utterly apart from their predecessors and contemporaries. And really, this is the only way to evaluate music - by ensuring it is entirely autonomous creative endeavor utterly disconnected from temporal reality around it. I have to say, I really appreciate the subtlety of your hot takes. You really have a great way of thinking things all the way through before you say them.

I just did a google search for Greta Van Fleet and the first thing that comes up is a question of why they are hated, a review by journalist who hated them for sounding like Led Zepplen, and loads of other hate. Just watch Anthony Fantano's last two reviews for their records...

The only people that think GFV is disconnected from temporal reality are those who don't know a stoner rock/homage to the 70s has existed since the 90s. Now I dislike the term "stoner", but what that music does is paying their respect to late 60s & 70s heavy psyche, blues rock, hard rock and so on.

Anyways, most of you haters basically have limited your criticism to them sounding like Led Zeppelin. While that's obviously true, the new album stands out for its strong melodies and thoughtful arrangements. This isn't a record that just strings together riffs with someone belting over them. The songs develop, they have layers, the melodies have lots of movement with troughs AND, obviously, peaks.
But hey, it sounds like Led Zeppelin and you boomers are in no mood for getting your blood pressure going with a fresh take on the sound.

stop using the term "boomers' as a slur, every time I see it it's like you're giving me the mddle finger for no reason. You either don't know what it is or you think all the users are in their 60s or something. You'd be surprised there are people of all ages on this forum.

What is even more unpleasant, is the fact that it feels like this post's only purpose was to provoke some disputes over this new album by GVF (that most people seem to either dislike or not care about), thus giving reasons for the infantile that posted it to throw the "boomer" tag here and there, instead of providing objective reasoning to why this album could be worthy of attention. I would not be surprised if this post gets locked soon.

We're literally having an internet discussion in 2021 on a classic forum format optimized for your average Netscape user circa 1999. I can't imagine anything more Boomer on the internet. But hey if you guys don't appreciate a bit of self deprecating humor, Ill stop using the term.
