Please help to classify my Genre (Prog Folk?)

Greetings, 
I am Brian Rosenberg an artist from the The Buffalo NY area.
Here is one of the songs off an album I am making called the Royal Flush Sessions.
I think the genre is progressive folk. However when I ask other people they give me a different answer.
I figure that I will take it to the experts. I hope a few take the time and let me know where this lands Genre wise. Thank you for those who listen. I hope a few enjoy what I have done.

Just FOLK.
Nothing overly progressive that I can discern.

One suggestion though, cut back on the reverb for the vocals and bring them more into the mix. Sounds like you're singing in a wine cellar and the mike is at the top of the stairs.

I like that. I'd call it folk of the rather "weird folk" variety.

What are some things that those others have said about your music?

The correct terms for this kind of unusual folk is avant-folk or sometimes freak folk.

Doesn't sound progressive to me either.

I would argue that true avant-folk (aka avant-garde folk) is truly progressive, but not necessarily Prog Folk(and genre terms vs adjectival use vary). Avant-garde is considered to be a synonym of progressive. Being avant-garde is about being experimental, radical and unorthodox, and the avant-garde was the advance guard. To progress is to advance. Freak folk has a close familial relation with Acid Folk (aka Psych Folk) and incorporates unusual sounds commonly. I'd be fine with calling this music progressive folk, but not as a genre really based on that one, but small p adjectival use. I do think that weird folk, avant-folk and freak folk work better for it as loose genre terms.

Agreed about the reverb (although I think he's using a massive amount of reverb and echo on both the vocals and guitar in an effort to make the recording sound weird or off-kilter). If the recording were clean, I don't see anything "progressive" about it. Just "folk" to me.

I agree that just "folk" works best to describe the music, but adding sub-genre tags can be useful for discovery.

What artists and albums inspire you the most, Brian? Listing those is useful for people to make reference-points

Hello,
This is Brian the person who posted the original song My account locked me out for some reason so I created a new one.

I would like to thank everyone for listening to the song.

I would like to address a few questions that came up.

The large amount of echo I did on purpose. I tried a dry mix a close to clean one and the large one. It might be too much but I wanted to get the feeling of playing in a large church. Did I do it correctly I am still not so sure.

People have said the following things about this song as logan brought up. 
Indie folk, Shoegaze which I thought was bizarre, Regular Folk, Progressive Folk and normal singer songwriter.

My influences are Buffy Sainte Marie, Bert Jansch, Forest, Comus and Fairport Convention and a few other more obscure 70's folk groups.  Also listen to a diverse style of music, Ragtime, Extreme metal and groups like King Crimson and ELP. Don't think any of that shows up here.

Again Thank you so much for listening and the feedback
