It's time to give some well-deserved Attention and Open praise for Brian Auger, the Hammond organ maestro of Jazz-Rock. It's Definitely What's needed, as I believe this may be the first Brian Auger tribute thread. He formed a musical partnership with Julie Driscoll - affectionately known together as Jools and Brian - and they formed a band known as Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & the Trinity back in 1967. They recorded some jazzy Streetnoise music together Befour Brian branched out away from Jools aboard his Oblivion Express train in search of A Better Land in 1970. Brian Auger now had a Second Wind with his new band and a new sound, and when it comes to powerhouse Jazz-Rock, Brian Auger's Oblivion Express was Closer To It than ever before. It was now full steam Straight Ahead with Reinforcements added to the band line-up at various stages, especially when it came to performing Live Oblivion. There were inevitable Happiness Heartaches along the way, but Brian reunited in an Encore album with Julie Driscoll (now known as Julie Tippetts, after marrying Jazz musician Keith Tippett) in 1978. Having temporarily left Oblivion Express behind, Brian Auger now set out on a Search Party for a new band in 1981, bringing  us up to the Here and Now in 1984. Brian realised his Keys to the Heart still lay with Oblivion Express and he reformed his band in 1987 with some Voices From Other Times. Finally, Looking in the Eye of the World in 2005, Brian Auger finally discovered the Language of the Heart in his most recent studio album in 2012. Heart Smile

All albums highlighted in Red in chronological order of release.

Bumpin' on Sunset is a classic piece of bliss and groove.
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

I wasn't sure who you were talking about until I searched it on YouTube and found he was a part of Steampacket.
I was a big fan of them and Julie Driscoll when I was a teenager.
Thanks for reminding me of them Smile

Brian Auger was a very busy musician during the 2000's.  During that time he was a card caring member of the jazz fusion group CAB.  Between 2000 and 2009 they produced four albums (one nominated for a 2002 Grammy Award.  The members of CAB are all powerhouse musicians.  The originals include Bunny Brunel, Dennis Chambers, and Tony MacAlpine.

I have Open, Streetnoise, and the next 6 lp's all on old vinyl.
Not sure which is my favorite perhaps Oblivion Express- 1970 or Closer To It -1973...

 3 stars Brian Auger - Attention (1965)

The original version of Cry Me a River on Brian Auger's  "Attention" (1965) album was performed by gravelly-voiced singer, Long John Baldry, but I much prefer this soft and sultry later version, sung beautifully by Brian's daughter, Savannah Grace Auger. Heart

A (relatively) contemporary band with a obvious deep love of Mr Auger is 'London Underground'.. bizarrely mostly Italian musicians (with connections with the band 'Standarte' from the 90's who had a really Vincent Crane thing going on) but the music is cool, funky, Hammond-filled goodness (and i think they cover a couple of Streetnoise and Oblivion express numbers
