and good point John .I didn't think of that.. about early voting and the increased use of it making traditional voting places less crowded. Then again as I noted.. if 2018 is any clue to 2020. I suspect with record setting turn out.. it might be crowded regardless of how many vote early or by mail.
and yeah.. same here John. Raff and I have become hermits other than my trips back and forth to work and Raff doing the grocery thing.

I voted in person because I don't want to hear any complaints about 'corrupt' mail in votes. Now I must head back to Nextdoor where I battle with local trumpateers on a daily basis ... up, up and away!

hah.. have fun with that. Two of my closest and dearest long time friends are Trumpateers... of the drank a river of booze, smoked a field of sh*t and thus completely fried their brain variety.
We have fun talking politics haha though I nearly punched out Jeff when our disagreement went a bit too far and a bit too heated one time. .but that is the good thing about old war buddies.. was all forgotten next time we saw each other. At least until we rinsed and repeated...

Re voting, my lovely state of Oregon only has mail-in voting, which I think is extremely safe and sane. And of course I will vote, no matter what I would have to do, I would vote.
Having gone through super long lines in Nashville in 2008, even early voting had lines over an hour long, where, for some reason, there were less places to vote than ever in Nashville (please say this in your mind in my sarcastic tone of voice for full effect), with an expected high turnout. I think the same happened in Memphis that year (Easy Money)? The two highly Democratic locales in Tennessee. Um hm.
But I do hear what you're saying about the experience with a group of people, which can also be initimidating in some circumstances, which is why I think voting by mail is a safe and sane way to do it. Also that nice paper trail, which for some reason never took quite as long as modern computerized tallying does. Another um hm from me.

that paper trail does make real good sense..a stupid question for you Nickie but that is where I live..
I assume you do get some sort of confirmation that your mail in vote was received and then was tabulated.

Re Snicolette: Yes I remember Memphis 2008, I was living in a mostly black voting precinct and the turnout for Obama was huge. It was a very touching scene to me as I saw the old people who grew up under harsh jim crow laws getting a chance to vote for the first black president. I will never forget that.

My brother and mother both did a mail in vote for Bernie. I didn't because I wasn't sure I saw the point but also because I didn't really look into it. If it wasn't down to just one person like it was by the time it got to my state I would have.

Yes, you can go online and determine that

Voted by mail for the primary. Absolutely loved doing it this way. I received an e-mail from the Pennsylvania Dept. of State saying my mail-in ballot will arrive in September or October for the election. Looking forward to it. Like everyone else, I've been "hermitized" (well, I do spend some time rolling around in the yard every now and then) and only go out for supplies, especially if I can't order them online.

Congrats to the San Francisco Giants' Alyssa Nakken, first woman to on-field coach a MLB game. Along with Katie Sowers, SF continues its tradition of forward movement even in sports.

keep to the good spirit up and i'm thourogly rooting for that democracy concept to raign supreme when all comes to that. Just hang in there and keep together (6 feet apart). Glad to see you participate by voting, i endorse that idea

You are going to hear about it anyway.
But I actually switched to a mail in ballot last year. And I find the experience much easier (although thankfully my polling place is not one to be swamped on election day, even for president).

I can't go there anymore. I auto-delete almost all of the emails when they come in. It really is a hotbed of Trumpists and Qlowns. Signed up years back thinking it might be useful, but it's really the opposite of the idea of community.

Yeah, it got pretty heated today. People get upset and paranoid about the census of all the stupid things. The census basically supplies statistics that are useful for businesses and individuals, but you would think by what some people say that the government is up to something sinister. The US is coming apart at the seams, four years of hollywood donald have definitely accelerated that.

40 years of a dedicated right-wing media campaign has poisoned us for generations. Making the people who vote for them fear things like the census only helps keep those citizens under their thumb. They're afraid of everything. Talk with any of them even for a short time and at the bottom of every single thought they have is deep-seated, irrational fear.
I believe in a healthy exchange of ideas, arguing and working towards compromise, and differing points of view. That keeps us all honest. But what we've allowed to slowly but thoroughly overtake us while we weren't looking hard enough is going to be tough to beat, if at all possible. Trump is the perfect distraction for a lot of people to use as cover who actually know how to get things done. They collectively realized they had a perfect opportunity to do a lot of things that they feel are good for them and theirs, all at once. He's the greatest gift they didn't even know they wanted. But they've truly gotten the most out of him, and with 6 months to go. Or more.
I am not optimistic about the future.

I appreciate what you say about wanting to hear both sides, I am the same way. I prefer solutions to ideology. One of the worst things trump has done is destroy what is left of intelligent conservatism. Progressive ideas on government efficiency and non-intrusiveness have been replaced with xenophobia, "culture war" nonsense and irrational fear mongering, as well as a crass and immature way of dealing with those who differ with you. What few responsible and intelligent conservatives are left are barely heard from anymore. As I have pointed out before, trump is not really a conservative, more like a fascist or banana republic dictator.

Maybe these folks should be introduced to genealogy where they'll see the benefits on a personal level on how useful censuses are.

^ Someone on the site brought that up and won over a few doubters. I'm usually not smart enough to be that constructive and end up entertaining myself with non-helpful smart-assed remarks.
