I tend to like Dire Straits most when they're at their most catchy, not necessarily their most prog. I love Sultans of Swing and Money for Nothing. Maybe News is my favourite.

I won't be able with just one, so I'll make one per album I love Debut: Six Blade Knife (In The Gallery, Waterline & Sultans are right up there) Gold: Private Investigations & Telegraph Road, but LOG and Never Rains are right up there too. BIA: the whole flipside is awesome, but Too Strong is the best |

The lp version of Sultans of Swing. Saw it on the Old Grey Whistle theft (sorry, Test) and then was played repeatedly at my sisters wedding by the DJ who'd just got a pre release copy.. this was before the single came out.. Actually the whole of that first lp (and the second actually) is good in a pub rock kinda way and brings back some nice memories..

Mi fave: I love Sultans of Swing live (Alchemy), especially for the final assolo.
Then, I love Private Investigation and Telegraph road, studio and live version. I love the first side of Making Movies, Tunnel of Love, Romeo and Juliet and Skateway. I love Money for nothing, Your Latest Trick and Ride Across the River. |

Not my favourite band, but still good imo. Love over Gold is a masterpiece anyway and I could pick any song off this album.

I used to listen to them often - decades ago. They were real good. I even bought John Illsley’s solo album Never told a Soul hoping it would have some cool bass playing. It didn’t. And it paled to the stuff Straits were releasing.
My favourite is probably In the Gallery, but I haven’t spun a DS record for years. My sister has them all on vinyl so I can spin them most anytime I wish, but I’d rather spin, I dunno....... Etron fou Le loublan or anything Prog or Extreme Metal...... Edited by Tom Ozric - April 26 2020 at 01:13 |
