FROM PIEMONTE...
Braam Van Der Stock, from Sangano... According to the official website, Braam Van Der Stock is not a rock band but a project, an experience that originates from the need to communicate, to launch messages, to express thoughts and moods through music. The name refers to one of the three prisoners of war who managed to break free from Stalag Luft III camp during World War II, in what is today remembered as the Great Escape, and the aim of the musicians is to pay tribute to this endeavour carried out with rudimentary and unusual means. The names of the artists involved in this project, based in a small town near Turin called Sangano, are not revealed in the booklet nor on the official website where they explain that as in the case of the Great Escape in which the tunnel to freedom was hidden under the name Harry, perhaps also the name "Braam Van Der Stock" hides something different… As for the music, for their self-released debut album, entitled Messa su strada (Mass on the road) they chose to interpret in a prog rock key the musical form of the Missa following the Catholic liturgical canons... Hi,
Space Pirate Radio, has been playing a new PFM, and also 2 Banco albums, one of which is live without Giacomo, and it sounds fantastic musically, although my very first time listening to it, the voice of the singer is a little too much on the rock'n'roll side, instead of Giacomo's more classical use of his voice. There is one other band in there which I am not sure which one it is. I want to listen to these albums listed recently to see if I recognize anything.

One of my favourite Italian Prog-Rock bands is Jacula, who later changed their name to Antonius Rex.

@Andrea:- I really like the sound of Antena White Opera. Your excellent guide to Italian Prog-Rock is the best guide to a specific genre of music that I've ever seen. By comparison, it makes my brief A-Z guide to Japanese Psychedelic Rock pale into insignificance.

FROM LAZIO...
La Seconda Eclisse began life in Rome in 2004 on the initiative of Andrea Ledda (bass), Daniele Piaggesi (guitar, vocals) and Francesco Latini (drums). After a good live activity on the local scene, in 2006 the band self-released a still immature debut album entitled Alea where you can hear a mix of psychedelic influences and indie rock. In 2010 their musical palette was enriched by a new member, Paolo (sax, guitar, synth,) and in 2013 they started to work on new compositions. After long periods spent in the studio alternated with some pauses due to personal problems, in 2018 the new album saw the light. It is entitled Nuvolauomo and is an interesting conceptual work telling about a personal crises. The album was self-released and in my opinion marks a step forward for the band with its good blend of psychedelia, post rock, alternative influences and poetry... More info: |
