You are afraid to say what you think of trump.
Sad.
How is that going to make America great again.
Sad.

What do you think of trump?

Who do you like more - Ocasio-Cortez or Pelosi?

I have an easy answer for you, but first tell me what you think of trump.

I prefer holding trumps vs holding non-trumps, don't you?

You know what I think of Trump. I've been very vocal on the subject and you took notice I'm sure. You're trying to pull another spin but it's not gonna work.

He is obviously too afraid to reveal his true feelings about trump.
Sad.
America will never be great with this tradition of 'bone spur draft dodging', 'no taxes paid to support our veterans' rip off con artist coward fake president.
Sad.

Wow, that's serious. What has happened here?

A reminder of the rules for any involved:

2. No Personal attacks (flaming or trolling). Keep it civil, show respect at all times for your fellow members. Disagreement, debate, even "heated" discussion is fine (though emoticons should be used to "soften" the effect of words). However, personally directed insults, denigration, etc. will not be tolerated, and will be grounds for warning and, if not stopped immediately, ejection. This applies equally to forum posts AND private messages. "Group-directed" insults and denigration (e.g., racism, sexism, ageism, etc.) also fall under this category, any such behavior will be taken on a case by case basis. Any member who engages in continuous baiting, borderline insults, or other continuously "aggressive" behaviour will be warned. Any member found to be using concurrent multiple personae (more than one profile at the same time) will be ejected from the site.

When it's become this bad that violence would be considered justified in the circumstances, I am extra concerned.

Then take a break if you feel the need. ^^ And Flagged me? No, I just checked this thread now and saw that it has come down to this (I'm not a regular in this thread). I haven't read back yet. I will investigate to see how things got this bad.

Greg, I am someone who feels anger is quite healthy and normal, and I will aggressively be myself as I always have been.   Now, my mother passed away yesterday and perhaps that is impacting my conduct, but frankly I don't think so.   I am a fighter and a real bast*rd, and an unlikely to take a voluntary break from this godforsaken, wonderful place.

Do what you need to do.

^^ I was asking in good faith without looking back on the thread (my daughter is at me for control of the computer now). I'm avoiding assumptions, and not apportioning specific blame. Things got very heated obviously.

I'm sorry to hear that David, all I felt I needed to do was ask at this time.

“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword" Jesus from Matthew). I'm a soft atheist cultural Christian cum quasi Buddhist with pacifistic leanings). And I do get how tempers can run high, or in my case it gets extremely frustrating and saddening, when you can't have an honest, respectful good faith discussion with someone (all too common when people come with an agenda and are didactic rather than open-minded). I've been very lucky in my life that I've never needed or felt the need to resort to violence, by the way (I have had a sheltered, unadventurous life living in low crime areas) but we all have our problems aside from immediate circumstances -- I have chronic depression and an anxiety disorder for instance, many on forums suffer from depression and anxiety (and I can be a royal b*****d as my wife would attest if she were not so kind. I think we all forget sometimes that people are going through hard times and we should try to be more forgiving and compassionate often because we don't really know that person's psychology or what they are going through. Tolerance of course must have its limits and I am a cynical person by nature. It's too easy to draw the wrong assumptions and to assign the wrong intent (the principle of charity, ideally, should be in play when in discussion).

Again, I really am sorry to hear about your mother, David.

By the way, while I have enjoyed many a debate on politics over the years, and I do feel passionately about many issues, I tend to avoid politics threads since it too often does devolve into ad hominems, hurt feelings, arrogance, tribalism, belicosity, and petty point scoring rather than open-minded, respectful dialectic between fellow truth seekers. I am a great believer in talking things out but that requires active, rational, thoughtful listeners with generally nuanced perspectives. I tend to avoid discussion with those whom I feel lack those qualities as discussion will not be productive. It's not a good time to post or react , generally speaking, when one is angry or highly-strung as it does affect our ability to think and react rationally. Anger can be a beneficial trait when properly harnessed (Don't make me angry, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry -- Dr. Banner).

If you actually do look back, I think you'll find that apart from the occasional slip-up, this has always been a civil thread and has lead to some interesting discussions.

Sorry to hear about your mother, Atavachron.

^ Thank you.   Big of you, considering the shots I've given you.   This is mostly a civil thread but god forbid political debate ever be civil.

My experience mostly comes from other sites, and, frankly, from reading the abominable Twitter where nuance becomes harder due to the limitations and opinion often seems far too polarised (one too rarely finds a synthesis of ideas there in the "debates", if one can call them such). That said, I'm not the news junkie I used to be, and I'd have to start following the issues more closely to be able to participate in a way that brings significant value to the discussions. I have occasionally posted here when I've noticed an issue of particular interest to me that I feel I have a perspective to bring to the table that might be of interest and generate discussion (I do like delving deep into controversial topics).
