I don't often check this thread, but I loved the film A Boy and His Dog. I should read more Harlan Ellison (he had issues with the film). |

I always love the books the best, but yes, he had some controversy himself with the film. And I enjoyed the film. I have a nice HUGE compendium of his works, signed. One of my prizes.

No. The 'buggers' in the Senate are assuredly not experienced pros (or terribly intelligent). Ike was a gem, so was Bush Sr. In fact at the time, Kennedy was a fairly conservative Cold Warrior despite his revised progressive image. |

I don’t know that I agree here. Smart and intelligent are too different things, in fact intelligent people are often not very smart in the common sense of the word. And how are senators who have served in office for a decade or more not experienced pros?

You are using words that you don't even understand. Check the definition: smart /smärt/Submit adjective 1. INFORMAL having or showing a quick-witted intelligence. "if he was that smart he would never have been tricked" synonyms: clever, bright, intelligent, sharp, sharp-witted, quick-witted, nimble-witted, shrewd, astute, acute, apt, able; More |

Definition wise, yes, you're right. But how about: someone is intelligent enough to hold down a government position together with his wife, but not smart enough to put enough money behind him to avoid having to use a food bank during a single month of a shutdown?

^ Read the definition again, intelligent and smart mean the same thing, you are misusing these words when you try to make them into words that are different from each other.

really touching piece on Politco today.. my shrink was the first to mention PTG to me and I really think there is something to it and really helped me out of the black hole I had fallen into. Obviously there is no better example of it than Biden.
https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2019/01/25/joe-biden-2019-profile-grief-beau-car-accident-224178
A very interesting point though... while he would be a real unifier... and one can assume after the great Divider himself.. it might be what this country needs. question is though... is that what the country wants. I'm not so sure.. as much as I respect Biden and would love him to be our President.. my money and support are going elsewhere. There are some/many/myself that think the time for playing nice is long passed.. it is time to root out what plagues this country and that takes a sword not an olive branch. interesting months and years to come... that Democratic Primary season will be classic and a bloodbath. |

I can relate to the PTG thing, certainly. As far as Biden, I do think he would be excellent as well...and I wonder, like you, if we don't need a dragonslayer, however. And would it be a mark against him being Catholic (in this day and age, and separation of church and state etc. shouldn't, of course...but that doesn't mean it might not be an issue). And again, shouldn't be, but age could also play against him. I think what happened this past month with Pelosi was, in a sense, certainly not an olive branch, but definitely not precisely a sword. It was out-witting and out-strategizing and knowing the real rules of the game. |

^ I sort of thought you might.
![]() and a big ![]() I do also think age might play against him.. not the usual sense.. but in the fact that Biden has shown a redundant bad tendency to shoot himself in the foot (and off at the mouth). As much as we love our geriatic population... the facilties do start to slip.. it happens.. I wouldn't be surprised if he blew himself up with some sort of gaff or mistake during the campaign. Twice run.. twice failed and both times up in smoke. Yes.. that was a master course in power politics delivered by Pelosi.. what will be an interesting dynamic moving forard is not so much with her and Trump.. but the dark lord of masterful power partisan politics himself. Darth McConnell..

Thank you. ![]() And please give my best to your lovely Raff. Yeah, on Biden, my thoughts exactly, re sometimes being too quick to rejoinder...at least his remarks were intelligent, if not always diplomatic. Yes, McConnell is just one of the most evil things in our history and such a smug dastard. ![]() It would be just wonderful to watch him getting put in his place and long overdue. I definitely will... and fwiw.. I'm damn glad you found your way here. I"ve really enjoyed the cyber chats and perhaps when I finally make my triumphant return to Oregon (haven't been back since '85) and with Raff in tow as she has always wanted to visit the left coast.. perhaps we could meet up. David is and has long been a cyber soul mate and someone who I will get a chance to finally meet in the flesh.. especially now that he offered to buy the food and drinks the first night hahaha. Of course I'll get the 2nd night. Though if you make it.. you might get tagged for the 3rd night... I don't know about David.. but I can put it away like no ones business.
Yes.. Mitch McConnell. Long before Trump became teh divider in chief.. he was probably the single most reason politics really reached toxic levels. Though I've heard little about it, an occasional article mentioning how his formidable political skills might may be fading.. very little in terms of his greatest blunder. Not rejecting Kavanaugh.. sure it didn't cost them the Senate.. though it might have cost them a major gain in the Senate rather than the slight one that did not put out of reach a very possible potential flip of the Senate in 2020.. and sure as hell cost them the House in 2018. Women... they were already mobilized and pissed thanks to Trump..and McConnell's handling of Kavanaugh and the sham of the Senate proceedings and further alienating them was the single stupidest thing the Republican Party has done.. and good god have they done some stupid sh*t.. but that one most than anything will speed the demise of that party as if alienating the coming majority-minority wasn't enough and still sticking to playing white identity nationalist/'victim' politics

Awww, shucks...I'm glad I found my way here, too. You and yours will always be welcome! You'll find it a lot more occupied than in '85 and this area has become kind of like Sonoma County with all of the vineyards. But it's still beautiful and the coast is just gorgeous in the west. McConnell's blocking of Obama's choice of Garland for Scalia's seat was unconscionable. And his snide comment about it being one of his "proudest moments," showed him as the pond scum he is. Yes, beware the contempt of women! And their voting power. Not to mention certain ones who know how to stand up to ignorant and blustering bullies.

Well....would you look at that...Roger Stone hauled into court. Yet another arrest in Trumputin's Kremlin Kriminal Klub. So many arrests. So many indictments. So many guilty pleas. This is the sixth Trump associate directly linked to the 2016 presidential election who has been arrested and/or indicted. One would think something illegal is going on. Quick, Donald! Dangle a wall in front of your ignorant supporters so they will be distracted. If that doesn't work, perhaps shut down the government. |
