Hey, with real sauce and real pasta, cardboard would be delicious...and the wine will help.  Smile

Driving across the border less than a week before Christmas, I noticed the same thing.  Border guards didn't even bother asking the usual questions, they just took a quick glance at the passports and waved us through.

By the way, here is an interesting faux-fact:  The word politician comes from the word politics which broken down means "poli" = many, and "tics" = blood sucking creatures.

I read in the English newspapers today that American bears are taking full advantage of the shutdown to feast on all the uncollected garbage

Seems like Trump is making America great again for bears

Looks like he might have some new supporters

yeah man...  just read an article on that today.  Crazy stuff man.. and those numbers.  Not just crazy but scary..

on top of the great news flowing across the internet about how guns are making it through TSA.. not that they were good at stopping weapons and explosives in the first place... not a good time to travel by air..  or for that matter congregetate near high value targets.  As I said man.. we will be lucky if we get through this without some cow walking through the open barn door

I don't know about that, but our National Parks are suffering.  Joshua Tree National Monument, in particular, has had vandalism done to some of the trees, it's a very fragile environment...Just despicable.

I've read reports stating that because of public toilets having become unusable some people have been forced to relieve themselves in other and open areas. Comedian Trevor Noah from South Africa remarked to this: "So who's the sh*thole country now!"

Yes, I read that people are just driving wherever they want in the parks and trampling the vegetation, destroying many plants that may not recover, especially in the fragile deseet ecosystems.

Maybe the theory is that if you trash America enough then the Mexicans won't want to come anymore. They'll prefer to stay in Mexico where the trash gets collected and the wildlife is protected?

This administration just wants to rape all of the resources in our national parks, unfortunately, for easy money, as it is.

We must be safe from Mexicans at all costs!!!! (where is the sarcasm emoticon?)

LOLClap  I.. umm.. we here.. can relate completely to that.  Hence my point about you all having sh*t the bed while we just wet it...

and this point all one can do is find the humor in things.. and enjoy the spectacle.. the history of it.  As I've said many times since that fatenight night in Nov. 2016.. we were are experiencing now.. will be in history books for many MANY years and leaving our future generations wondering...

what the f**k were they.. BREXIT voter.. Trump voter.. thinking... were they even?

You all have been on the downslope of international relevance for some decades now.. this time for us will likely mark us.. like the Suez Crisis did for you all.. at that point where historians can point where we jumped the shark as the a primary superpower.

Just out of interest: if you're an unpaid US government worker and refuse to come to work because you're not being paid: what happens if you just tell them to f-off?

^ The question is what happens when qualified people decide not to come back when the shutdown is over.

No, I mean, seriously. Do they have some sort of clause in their contract that states that they have to work without pay during a government shutdown?

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/16/us/politics/shutdown-federal-workers-strike.html

The law prohibits them from striking

The National Labor Relations Act extends a right to strike to American workers — but it specifically does not give that right to government workers. A law passed during President Jimmy Carter’s administration bars federal workers from striking. When air traffic controllers walked off the job in 1981, demanding better pay and working conditions, President Ronald Reagan ordered them to return to work. When they did not, he fired them.
