It was a creative dead zone of sheer laziness cash grabbing, and I really have no patience. I've listened to the whole thing only twice, and probably never will again.

Obscurred By Clouds is actually a bunch of songs made for a soundtrack.  Yes it seems incomplete in a way, but some of the songs do stick with you.  It also explains that strange sounding ending on "Absolutely Curtains" which is the last track.  The movie ends as our protagonist finds peace with living a tribal life and this track featured that tribe which was played with the final credits.  Anyway, I wouldn't consider it PF's worst album and it is far from being the worst album ever.  As far as cash grabbing, PF was far from doing that when that album was recorded as most of their albums were unheard of back then.

I know that it is a soundtrack. And I don't know about you, but I cannot for the life of me recall any of those songs. I personally consider A Momentary Lapse of Reason, and More to be leagues better than Obscured.

Well, I can't really penetrate Waters solo. So I do think Waters needed Gilmour a lot. But, yeah, the depth he brought to Floyd albums is what they lost on AMLOR/DB. A Floyd album had a lot of meaning. That was no longer the case.

Totally agree about Waters being the depth (AMLOR and TDB are shallow like a puddle), while Gilmour (and Wright) being more or less the musicality somewhat lacking in a sombre and hopeless ocean-abyss like ATD

I can't help but wonder what would've sounded A Momentary Lapse of Radio Kaos' Reason and Amused To Death by The Division Bell, by keeping the best tracks of each

Yup, Killroy Was Here is also a contender for worst album ever.

I guess having Momentary Lapse and Radio Kaos combined with the best songs, and input into each song from the rest of the band members, would have helped to make a great album. However, with Amused to Death and The Division Bell, I think both were great and didn't really need to be complemented by each other (in any case, I would have combined The Division Bell and The Endless River), however, having the rest of Floyd to contribute to Amused to Death would surely have helped to elevate that one to perhaps the best album Pink Floyd might have released. Te Division Bell might have gotten a bit more of punch and depth to the lyrics. And let's not forget "Broken China", since that one could have benefitted well enough by having the help from the rest of the band (as an example, there's "Breakthrough" on Gilmour's "On Concert" DVD.

I do recall all of the songs from Obscurred and actually bought the remastered vinyl, yes it's weaker than some, but it grew on me over the years.  It's "More" that I have a problem with and would consider that and Final Cut as the worst PF albums, but even then, they are still not the worst albums ever.  I can easily give that designation to The Residents worst albums and they would probably be proud about it because that was their intention.

I've never heard of Vulgar Unicorn, but I enjoy Pineapple Thief a lot. I also enjoy a few things from Radio KAOS and AMLOR, worst things ever they are not if you ask me.

Worst thing ever is something unlistenable (like the last two Triumvirat albums) or extremely boring (Yes - Open Your Eyes).

I agree The Astonishing is quite awful, but Lulu is clearly far worse.

I would submit Annihilator's Metal as another example of truly awful music

I don't doubt it, I just haven't listened to that one. I picked Metal only because it's the worst of the Annihilator albums I've heard. After the first two, what happened? Is he just phoning it in to give himself an excuse to tour?

LOL
I am not this harsh on Annihilator, but the same could be said about other bands: for example, has Megadeth ever created something as good as Peace Sells or Rust in Piece? Has Metallica come close to their Burton days? And i could go on...

It's true, Metallica as a metal band is a spent force IMO. It was actually a good idea to do something different with Load and Reload (whether these albums were successful musically or not is a separate question). What they're doing now is completely uninteresting. It's like they've got a knob labeled "modern Metallica style" which they've just turned up to 11. The result has no dramatic contour whatsoever. It's just constant "Hey this is a Metallica song!" for the whole album.

Excellent topic to release a bunch of prog frustrations! I had just discovered Steve Hillage, thanks to the legendary German Rockpalast, then I stumbled upon Gong Live, I noticed that Steve Hillage was featured, was very pleased with the wonderful cover art, bought it, listened to it …. it turned out to be a pretty nerveracking experience, not my cup of tea is an understatement, what a very disappointing experience. Today I call Gong Live the worst album I have ever heard, thanks for this topic, very welcoming ….

The third album, Set the World on Fire (with Mike Mangini on drums) is very good. For whatever reason, Annihilator changed to much after the third album. The writing's never been up to the standard of those. The album Criteria for a Black Widow has the line-up from the first album, minus the bass player, and isn't bad.

I pretend Metallica disbanded after the '80s.

Maybe The Ladder by Yes. "Homeworld" is admittedly a great song, and then the rest of the album is just utter trash.
I use they/them pronouns (feel free to ask me about this!)

Check out my music on my bandcamp!

Among my least favorite albums by any band are Yes’s Keys to Ascension and Heaven and Earth. It’s honestly hard to choose which is worse!

Watch out now! A band member from Yes could be here posing as a prog fan.

A few years ago Geoff Downes started posting occasionally on Yesfans.com. Suddenly it was tough to find anyone posting anything critical about him!
But yes - - I’ll be careful!

I will admit that I do enjoy some of the songs from Load and Reload, but I never listen to them as complete albums because there's so much filler that's just not fun to listen to.
