The best
VDGG album is the 73 one, the double album “Chameleon in the Silent Camera of the Night": What an album, "Physical Graffiti" meets "Exile in Main Street", they colide and implode Side I 01 – Ferret
and Featherbird 02 - Roncevaux 03 - The Liquidator 04 – W
Side II 05 – Modern 06 – Faint
Heart and the Sermon 07 –
Forsaken Gardens

That's because it isn't actually a VDGG album. Rather, it's a collection of songs (presumably thrown together by Devoncir himself) taken from three Peter Hammill solo albums (Chameleon In The Shadow Of The Night, In Camera, and The Silent Corner And The Empty Stage) which are often considered to be part of the VDGG discography since all the other band members collaborate on them.

This album doesn't exist,  bur isn't it great?   .  This is an possible album, that should have been released in 73, had Pawn Hearts made more sucess - the sucess it deserved. The lost album could be double:  5 songs from VDGG plus 5 PH songs that are recurrently played live by VDGG, and were even included as extras in VDGG albuns.  The only exception is "Modern", that is based only in my opinion -- I think it´s very VDGGish, and well recorded.

Not quite right  Actually 5 of the songs ARE VDGG songs ( W, Liquidator, Rift, Roncevaux , Ferret (extra form 1st VDGG album )) 3 songs ARE VDGG extra tracks, recorded live, (Louse, Blackroom, Gog) - and also VDGG always plays these ones 2 songs are completed VDGG songs from VDGG's Time Vaults (Faint , Forsaken) and also recurrent part of the live VDGG live repertoire. . .

Ah, now I understood.
My favorite is Pawn Hearts. But I'm still wondering if my second is World Record or Godbluff.

Form their two three album runs (70-72 & 74-76), I tend to prefer the first one in either of their trilogies
The Least and Godbluff are their IMHO
H To He and Still Slife are second best
Pawn and World come in last (both of them have got one of their two longer tracks), though Pawn is defintely superior to World and is on par with H to He

How can there be even any debate? Lemmings, Man-Erg and A Plague of LightHouse Keepers? C'mon man, Pawn Hearts ranks among the top 10 albums of all time! The contributions by Robert Frip themselves make this album essential listening.
I guess I'm becoming a musical snob because I know exactly what I like whilst so many are lost in the heavy pantheon of Prog Rock. To me there's litle to no middle ground...

Friede and I actually went through a VdGG marathon yesterday and listened to all 13 studio albums in succession and completeness; a 12 hour task. wow, what a ride!
their latest album "Do Not Disturb" is excellent, by the way. my favorite track is "(Oh No! I Must Have Said) Yes". the album is a strong competitor to their best material from the 70s

What a wonderful day that must have been! I so agree. There are no studio albums less than 4 stars and i finally got their lastest "Do Not Disturb" just a couple weeks ago and i totally agree that it is also excellent. One of my favorite bands. I can't name a favorite but i do find "Still Life" to be one of my least favorites.
