Could it be because more of these types of "wacko" incidents are being reported because mass media is everywhere, whereas in the distant past a lot of this stuff wasn't reported or didn't warrant publication in a newspaper? Could it be that there are a LOT more people on the planet than there were 20 years ago or 100 years ago? If the percentages in population shows an increase, I could be convinced of this theory.

Oh, um, yes indeed. I was referring to the thrust of your post, not to the part about you being off the beam. I think people get lots of information and don't know how to evaluate the source.

The right on the other hand has either gone wacko or has adopted wackos as their figureheads.

This is not exactly about American politics, but there might be a connection:
I'm not joking when I say that in general all over the globe really really stupid things are happening practically all the time now, and what makes it alarming is that the rate at which such things are happening seems to be increasing almost exponentially. I'd be happy to give lots of examples on request, but there's not enough room here. A host of them can be found in present US politics. But that's only one of many.
People all over the world seem to be losing their faculties more and more. I'm not talking about an IQ drop, that could be measured, but sensible judgement seems to be on the decline. I don't have any doubt about this, based on both permanent personal observations and research into an ever growing number of cases in the public domain. It's a fascinating study.
Based on assuming that this decline is a fact, the question is: what could be causing this? Is it the media or the excruciatingly stupid TV programing, or is it the plague of mobile networks that apparently nobody can do without any more, social media perhaps, or is it something else?
I've no idea what's been causing this over the last 15 years or so, but I'm certain there must be something. Any opinions here about this (without any barmy conspiracy theories)? I think it's a side effect of something we haven't realised yet.

^It's a f**king American politics thread. The reason it makes no f**king sense is because almost all American politicians are f**ked up like you wouldn't believe.

I will give it a shot. America has a very diverse population. We do need more parties than Democrat and Republicans. I will list my new thoughts for parties. Parties are good. The Hollywood Party Retired Sports Heroes Party The Mafia Party Scientology Party Sagebrush Rebellion Party Megamillion Winners Party.

I apologize if my opinion upset you. Since you disagree with me, would you prefer me not to post on this American Politics Thread? I thought this thread was a place where Progarchive membership could discuss American Politics. |
Should we not welcome different opinions and a healthy discussion on a discussion thread?..
It seems to me you need to develop a thicker skin......... . Good point. I agree, I wholeheartedly welcome different opinions and healthy discussion. At least I think I do. Would you please define "healthy discussion".

Well, I guess Chris Wallace in Fox News kinda meets that description (and Trump supporters hate him, not surprisingly).

PewDiePie seems irrelevant here, all those damn leftist news reports in my damn leftist country have said 'Warner Bros have ended his contract for supposedly saying offensive things about jews. According to him it was just a joke.' Some media lie, some, often state-owned media, have no fiscal or political incentive to lie, they show me long slices of Trumps actual commentary with no framing words or judgements and it's still obvious Trump has no idea what he's talking about. He has said America's gross product was $0, he said unemployment might very well be over 40%, he said something 'happened last night in Sweden', when there is still not a single Swede who knows about anything happening that night, he first said the wall would cost $4 billion, which he slowly raised up to twelve billion. He's a complete moron.
