In Styx discography on PA all of their albums are labeled as prog-related.
But I think this album should definitely fall under a "prog rock" term.
What do you think?

This album, yes.  The remainder of their discography, most of which I enjoy quite a bit, I have to say no.  Leanings towards Prog, most certainly.  Hence, Prog-Related is an appropriate designation.

I would say yes, as well as with many of their other albums. I've always thought they would fit fine in symphonic prog or crossover prog honestly.

I'd say that Styx's proggiest album (by far) is their debut... But it's clearly the worst prog album ever recorded

I enjoyed immensely their albums from Equinox to Po8, but let's face, there was the odd proggy track (like Castle Walls), but the rest was brilliant pomp-rock

I have it, I used to think it was prog, but now I think it's prog-related pomp rock and I haven't listened to it in 20 years because it just isn't that good. It's a 3* album of a band trying to be prog and only half succeeding.

Castle Walls was prog. I'm not sure about the rest. Come sail away was proggish especially with the synths. Great album regardless. I can't really decide so I won't vote.

Most (all?) of the Wooden Nickel stuff is much proggier than anything that came after.

I won't vote because I don't think it matters much.  I think it's their best album but still think it's only 3 stars.

OK album with some stylings borrowed from the usual suspects.  To me it's '70s era rock album with a prog arrangement that was more or less fashionable at the time. But there is nothing in the realm of say And You And I. It was merely a way of performing the songs which could have been done as disco number they were so essentially generic. Could've been Saturday Night Fever contenders.

Moreover prog rock is an essential composite of classical scope and detail using rock to drive the dynamics. Illusion doesn't really do any of this. I found it disappointing - which is made worse as I had little expectation in the first place.

Some of the other albums before it are more listenable to me as rock pieces never mind prog rock.

I know AOR is a format rather than a style but this seems to be the orientation (rather than musical direction) of Styx - and where they were very successful.
