Ophiucus - Ophiucus - A folky French album from 1971. I saw a 5 star review for it on the front page the other day with a lot of Harmonium comparisons, so I was naturally very intrigued. The production is unsurprisingly rough, but the music itself is not bad at all. Plenty of calm acoustic sections, fine melodies, and the singing is quite pleasant. No Serge Fiori, but still a nice voice and very appropriate for the music. In fact, I have to give these guys credit for having a surprisingly wide sonic palette. Though most of the music is pastoral folk, there are some vaguely eastern sounding moments and some heavier psychedelic sections. Not essential, but a nice blend of music altogether.

Sounds like something I would really like! Smile Will have to check this one out.

Henry Cow - Western Culture One excellent album to start your day! I went to bed really late yesterday and I couldn't fall asleep, but this album got me on my feet effectively. I am appreciating this so much right now, especially when I think of all these melodies, rhythms, and harmonies. Great, great album.

Ash Ra Tempel - Join Inn The recent Ash Ra Tempel albums poll got me wanting to revisit this album, which I had not investigated to a great extent. It's good, but I see, why I had not been thinking of coming back to it - there is something really one-dimensional about it, something kind of flat, despite Manuel's fantastic guitar work and Klaus Schulze's synthesizer playing.

Art Ensemble of Chicago - People in Sorrow Very good album. It's free-jazz, but it's on the mellow side, it's more ambient. There are no loud overblows nor pounding on the drumkit like mad nor anything sounding like a cat walking on a piano. This is very mellow, deep, spiritual music. Flute is one of the great instruments here, double bass gently accompanies in the background.

John McLaughlin - Extrapolation One of John McLaughlin's first album appearances. It's 1969 and he sounds nothing like he would even one year later on Bitches Brew or Devotion. It's electro-acoustic post-bop for the most part with fusion melodies and harmonies, but rather traditional arrangements. Nice album!
Categories strain, crack and sometimes break, under their burden - step out of the space provided.

Some interesting stuff there in the Ant Rex fold.  I was always hoping they would release Charles Tiring's solo album of Gothic Organ music, on CD.  I'm not holding my breath though.

Big smile There's not a particularly strong album, all have really great and forgettable songs. It was suprisingly easy to listen to all of them in a row though, since her music goes in all directions: Synthpop, Disco, Punk and some really cheesy ballads LOL Not much on the Progressive Electronic department, which was the reason why I heard them.

^ You can find it on Spotify and Deezer (and many more streaming websites probably). It's where I checked it out before buying anyway.

You will probably not like the debut nearly as much but I hope I'm wrong. In which format do you have the debut, by the way? I bought it on vinyl and it has less two tracks than the CD. At first I assumed it was a bad thing but it really makes the album much easier to listen.

Yesterday:
Doris Norton - Raptus
Doris Norton - Parapsycho
Doris Norton - Nortoncomputerforpeace
Doris Norton - Personal Computer
Teddy Lasry - E=MC² (A Magma related Electronic/Jazz/Folk album, very original)
Streetmark - Dreams (I saw the other day an album with the same cover as Wunderbar and I wondered what it was. The marketing strategy still works almost 40 years later Tongue)
Deutsche Wertarbeit - s/t (Solo album of Streetmark's keyboardist with some expected similarities with the album below.)
Wolfgang Riechmann - Wunderbar (The only non-first listen of the day)
Steve Moore - Cub (It has the same problem as many electronic soundtracks, most tracks are short and could be so much better otherwise. Anyway, it was not a good idea to turn off the lights LOL)
I don't have the album, I probably listened to it on progstreaming. Yesterday I just saw utube offers only two tracks so I'll have to search for it again, I don't think I'll buy it before checking it out once more.

This was an overly weird series of albums to listen to. I need to hear an actual melody now...
