We taped the show on Mondays for Saturday broadcast.  Pure Bliss for a teenage boy in 1964.  SPACE PIRATE RADIO wouldn't have happened without those early excursions into the outré.

I pretty much played Songs Of Love And Hate, New Skin For The Old Ceremony and Songs From A Room endlessly in my teens & still play his stuff regularly. His lyrics and delivery just speak to me. I saw him live in the 80's, hauntingly beautiful concert. Damn I'm sad.

I'm damned sad and I didn't like his music. He was a brilliant poet and lyricist, though.

I was very saddened at the news of Robert Vaughn's death.  I had a tremendous amount of respect for this

man.  Although in my teen years I emulated David McCallum's Illya look: bowl cut blond hair, much too long

for restrictive dress code fascist John A. Rowland High School, Rowland Heights, California, with turtleneck, always being suspended from class, till I cut it and looked closer to the "Let's hit the beach, Marines" style of '60s Amerika.... I found that the politics of Vaughn were closer to mine than the apparent jazz loving Russian.  In other words, Vaughn was a Kennedy Democrat and later I found out McCallum was Bush & Bush supporting Scots Conservative/Tory.  I was fortunate to meet both of them as a writer on the U.N.C.L.E. set in 1966.

Vaughn was going to go into politics, running for California senator on the Democratic ticket, but got scared by the Storm Trooper faction who threatened him off camera.  I think he would have done a good job. R.I.P.
