I agree. Their best and most talented line-up. The album sounds really raw.
My favorite though is Waterfall Cities...

Last two days:

Ozric Tentacles - Arborescence (easily one of their best albums)
The Gentle Storm – The Diary (heavy version)
Renaissance – Novella
My Home on Trees – How I Reached Me
Bad Acid - Revelations of the Third Eye
Weedpecker - II
Mantric Muse – s/t
Tangerine Dream – Official Bootleg: vol 1: Manheim set (me too, Sam. All those early concerts sound like their own albums, each one different to the last)
Alpha Wave Movement – Kinetic (latest AWM album)

Tangerine Dream - The Official Bootleg Series Volume 1 (The whole set Embarrassed It's interesting the upgrade of equipment from one concert to the other. It sounds more genuine as well, since "Ricochet" was edited in the studio.)
NOFX - The War on Errorism
Mata-Ratos - Banda Sonora do Apocalipse Anunciado
The Clash - Give 'em Enough Rope
Soft Machine - Fifth (Yes, it has a nice atmosphere, but I feel the songs have a lack of direction, which got even more evident with the abrupt ending.)
King Crimson - Larks' Tongues in Aspic

Lisa Loeb - 'Firecracker': I loved this woman in the mid-90's, though I didn't pay much attention to her music. This release is quite a mess, but there's a couple of goodies within. Feels like a rarities, demo & B-sides album.

Renaissance is superb!

My picks today:

Susanne Sundfør - The Silicone Veil
Susanne Sundfør - Ten Love Songs
Fleetwood Mac - Tango in the Night
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love

Happy The Man - Crafty Hands - First time listen for this one. Plenty of excellent synth-driven (mostly) instrumental prog on side one; the compositions and performances are tasteful and organic. Side two presents some more interesting wind arrangements, all still to a very high standard of composition. What with this and Yezda Urfa's Boris, Mr. Smith may have been on to something all along! LOL

It took six albums to make up my mind, good thing I have plenty of listening time Tongue

Cerrone - III (Really cool (and Jarre-ish in places) Electronic Disco on side A. Side B is the usual stuff with strings and brass... meh)
Popol Vuh - Einsjäger & Siebenjäger (I enjoyed this one more than the previous two for some reason)
Harold Budd / Brian Eno - "Ambient 2: The Plateaux of Mirror" (Quite minimalistic but very soothing and different from "Abandoned Cities". I'll have to listen to Airports as well, Andrew Thumbs Up)
Zacht Automaat - We're Glad You Agree
Zacht Automaat - As It Is Spoken, It Shall Be Done
The Flower Kings - Retropolis (I see what you mean Michael, it's like Close to the Edge meets Red. It makes sense since Retropolis is both wondrous and strange: after all everyone sells something (illegal?) and wizards morph into Elvis LOL)

Sam, nice to see you've voted "yes" for Zacht Automaat. Smile

Myself, I have revisited one of my favorite Progressive Electronic albums today. That's right, I'm talking about Musik Von Harmonia. This album is magnificent. Magnificent. The early-70's drum machines add such a distinctive flavor and there is just something about the recording, instrumentation, and colors of this album that make it one of my favorites to come out of Germany.

Cartoon - Cartoon This is definitely a lost gem of avant-rock. The instrumentation is interesting. Although there is almost no bass guitar, the sound feels very rich and full. Loads of synthesizers and nice Hammond organ remind me of Brain Salad Surgery at times. But the music makes me thing of Art Zoyd or Univers Zero, but without the dark, ominous element. Really good stuff!
Categories strain, crack and sometimes break, under their burden - step out of the space provided.
