Herbie Hancock - Sextant Kevin, you sure did not lie! This is indeed a very special album. Very creative music. Herbie's synth timbres are great and pair well with overdriven Rhodes and giant horn section that is ON FIRE!!! Unearthly music that takes me away. Thanks for the recommendation!
![]() Adelbert Von Deyen - Sternzeit Excellent Berlin school-esque album that should be of great interest to Klaus Schulze fans. While Schulze's music is often very "classical" in appeal, this one seems a bit more down-to-earth and emotional. It has its flaws, but it's a good album that should not be missed! |

Glad you liked it! Pretty hard to go wrong with the Mwandishi trilogy (Mwandishi, Crossings, Sextant) in general.

Fleetwood Mac - Tusk (5 star album and the Buckingham era's finest release.)
Dio - The Last in Line (Maybe Ronnie's best album) Rush - Power Windows (aka, it's over) Happy Rhodes / Security Project - YT clips (wonderful, almost the Kate and Peter project that never happened. On tour in the northeast right now if you are lucky enough to notice) Biglietto per l'Inferno - Vivi Lotta Pensa Laurie Anderson - Home of the Brave Joni - Blue (this woman is divine) |

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Second Helping - My third favourite Skynyrd release, after the debut and Street Survivors. So many classic tracks on here. Sweet Home Alabama (not even the excessive radio play and that awful Kid Rock song have ruined this one for me), Workin' For MCA (love how pissed off they sound in this one; gets the blood flowin'), The Ballad of Curtis Loew (one of Skynyrd's most beautiful ballads, alongside Tuesday's Gone and I Never Dreamed), Needle and The Spoon (they do Clapton's style better on this one than Clapton ever did) and Call Me The Breeze! Love it.
Öz Ürügülü - Forgotten Archives - I don't even wanna know what these guys are on. Really weird music out of Switzerland, vaguely reminiscent of Steve Vai in the guitar playing, but generally sticking to the weirder, more Zappa-like side of his output. Wonderful fusions of metal and jazz throughout, and the electronic touches every now and again don't hurt either. Eskaton - 4 Visions - First listen and I've gotta say, wow! This very well may be my favourite Zeuhl album yet. Love the synth work, and there's some great guitar soloing in here, too. But above all, it's just so awesome how they can manage to make something that's so ambient yet bustling, meditative yet energetic, creepy but funky. I have a feeling this one may grow to be a favourite of mine...

I'm glad you like it! It's my favorite non-Magma zeuhl album, I think. I like how you point out that ambience it has. There is a little story I'd like to share about 4 Visions. When I first heard this album, I was reading Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury. The human invaders of Mars were exploring the ancient buildings and temples of the extinct Martian civilisation. That album went so well with the book, I could not believe it, as if it was made to be enjoyed with the novel. ![]() |

I'm pretty damn obsessed in Adelbert von Deyen's early albums, Tymon! Can't go wrong with the first three (the third one `Atmosphere' in particular is pretty special to me), and then `Planetary' a few after that is reliable too. I always felt von Deyen deserved more credit than he gets, I don't find him such the total Schulze clone as a lot of people who dismiss him outright. I've listened to his first three albums dozens upon dozens of time, and I still keep going back to them over the years. ![]() |

Tymon, Tom Ozric on here actually gave me his LP of `Nordborg' maaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnyyy years ago now (well, twenty years maybe!) when we both lived in Victoria, it was my first electronic LP. He always found it too icy and cold (which it IS, and I feel that's the point of it!) and didn't like it. It sat on my shelf for years (although I LOVED looking at the alien front cover, BLEW. MY. MIND.

Good album that Roach one, Sam!
![]() Tonights choices: Mantra Vega – The Illusion’s Reckoning (a wonderful and melodic crossover band with members of Mostly Autumn, Sound of Contact, etc, a very unexpected and nice surprise!) Shadowfax – Watercourse Way (many many times) Wilding/Bonus – Pleasure Signals – Sagi, would you have heard these two jazz-fusion discs? |

Soft Machine - Live at Henie Onstad Art Centre 1971 Is this the ultimate Soft Machine live album? Definitely. Wow. This is brilliant and I cannot fully express how much I'm impressed by this release. Soft Machine has been one of my all-time favorite bands and this album captures my favorite period of their existance. They are on FIRE during this performance. About 20% is improvised with all the great numbers we know and love in between. The atmosphere is out of this world. This album definitely captures a very special moment in time and if you are a fan of Soft Machine or creative jazz-fusion in general, you can't miss this album! Highly recommended!
Adelbert Von Deyen - Nordborg Very good! Definitely an improvement over his debut album. The first track is in the vein of the first release, sort of Schulzesque, while the second piece picks up a very dancable rhythm with somewhat of an Alpha Centauri-ish Farfisa playing and great Hohner piano fills. Nice album! I'm looking forward to hearing what Von Deyen was up to on his next records. Present - Le Poison I have finally got around to watching the documentary Romantic Warriors II: A Progressive Music Saga About Rock in Opposition, having enjoyed the one they did on the Canterbury scene immensly. This one is not as good, but it was quite enjoyable and made me discover a thing or two about the movement. And there was an interview with Raff in the film! ![]() ![]() |
