I will drop it, then.
It was meant to joke (in an antithetical way, from the Greek antithetikós) with the irrelevance and absurdity of all this strife (from the Old French estrif) around BD & NP

Good. Now we can go back to discussing how unworthy Bob Dylan is of an award for literary contributions to humanity.

Yes, and how many times must a man look up Before he can see the sky? One, unless he's indoors, then one needs more information before that can be answered, like the presence of one of those misogynistic glass ceiling we hear so much about which your hypothetical man can no doubt see through so again the answer would be one. Yes, and how many ears must one man have Before he can hear people cry? One is sufficient as stereophonic hearing isn't required at this juncture. Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'till he knows That too many people have died? One again - look mate, I'm going to have to stop you here because I know you were only 21 when you wrote this and hadn't been around long enough to work out this stuff for yourself but, seriously, none of this is difficult or mind-boggling...and I suspect that even the dimmest teenager toking a spliff in a darkened room listening to this would have worked out the answer to most of these questions is "one" and while some say the wind cries Mary or other such nonsense, I've never heard tell of a zephyr recount anything even that could be considered a cardinal number or resembles such even if the listener was drunk, stoned or simply away with the fairies. The wind is the result of air movement from an area of high atmospheric pressure to an area of low atmospheric pressure, it lacks the sentience necessary to answer specific pseudo-philosophical adolescent questions. The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind Oh, alright, ignore me, here we go again... The answer is blowin' in the wind ffs man, if you go around listening to atmospheric events and attributing them with magic oratorical properties then people will start crossing the street to avoid you and the next thing you'll know is you'll be wearing a silly hat and talking to imaginary "friends".

Maybe they should have given him the peace prize instead since that one was undeniably already a joke?

Ok, Blowing In The Wind? Not so good. Knocking On Heaven's Door? Classic.
