Got me plenty confused there, Sam, I can't think for a second how that album sounds even remotely like VdGG! ![]() Also, I'm inclined to say that the Alphataurus album wipes the floor with all the VdGG albums, but that's probably personal opinion! ![]() |

Cheeky bugger....but yeah, you're priobably not wrong! ![]() It took me a few listens so many years ago when I first got the Alphataurus album (which was literally one of the first RPI albums I owned) to figure out why I wasn't quite warming to it, and sure enough, it was the sudden realisation that the vocals are mixed REALLY upfront. They often really dominate the instruments/other musicians, and they're also very forceful and `in your face'! As much as I love the album, I still often think `Sigh....if only the vocals were mixed better and less obnoxiously....' ![]() |

I can't find any information about the recording and production, but I wouldn't find hard to believe the singer had something to do with the mixing

Hi Sam! Well I'm not a huge Zuffanti fan nor am I a fan of 80 minute albums generally....I like those old school RPI albums that were 28 minutes long ![]() |

Alas - Pinta Tu Aldea - Just posted my review of this. Absolutely adore this album; I'm actually kicking myself a little now for not giving it 5 stars, but I try to be conservative with those whenever I can.
Crucis - Los Delirios Del Mariscal - See also, my review. This one took me a little bit to really appreciate, but now it's up there in my top 10 Argentinian records. Nau Aletheia - Nau Aletheia - I'm on an Argentinian reviewing streak tonight! This one was quite a recent discovery (as it's quite a recent release), and I'm eagerly awaiting a full length album from these guys.

I've lost my symphonic porgressive psychedelic spacerock mojo.
The last 2 weeks it's all poprock and melodic rock (mostly from the 80's and early 90's) Ya Ya - II Strangeways - Walk in the Fire Strangeways - Native Sons

^ The Sulfur Giant album is great with excellent dual guitars that compliment each other very well.
It is mostly instrumental with enough mellow parts to keep it from being full on stoner rock. There is also some organ on a few tracks that adds a nice touch. Digital only now but vinyl/CD in November.

^ I like it a lot and ordered the vinyl the first time I heard it.
It's not heavy down tuned guitars from beginning to end and the even, laid-back type vocals give it an overall smoother sound than some bands that play this style of music.
They also have a 2016 EP called Providence that I haven't heard yet. |

![]() I bought Fourth and Fifth on vinyl the other day. It's very different from Third, more Avant/Fusion Jazz than Canterbury, more up-tempo/intricate and less psychedelic/atmospheric but I enjoyed it. I recall liking Fifth more than Fourth on previous listens though.

Yeah, it's definitely very avant-fusiony, somewhat ECM-esque in my mind. I can't say if I like Fourth more than Fifth, both have some amazing tracks, but I feel like Fourth is overall more focused and more "ALotOfBottle." ![]() Sam, also thanks for help over at the other thread regarding my bio, I'll PM admins tomorrow. Today's listens: Eric Dolphy - Out to Lunch ![]() ![]() ![]() Egg - Egg ![]() ![]() ![]() |
