Agreed but 'Louder than Words' certainly don't deserve the mean treatment it got by some jaded fans. A very nice song and a fitting end indeed. |

I heard "The Endless River" again last week and really enjoyed it. Sure it's a collection of short ideas but they are so masterfully held together. It's also good to hear Rick getting the attention he deserves. To be honest, I prefer this one over "The Wall". The saxophone on "Anisina" really sucks though.
Today: I Giganti - Terra in Bocca (First listen, this is amazing ) Exponent - Upside Down (A German 70's Psych obscurity, keyboards aplenty!) Choro Visceral - s/t (Very cool Heavy Psych from Peru with saxophone and violin.) Yellow Magic Orchestra - s/t Jiro Inagaki & Soul Media - Funky Stuff

Agh. Back from London. sh*ttiest internet speed/connection you could ever imagine, which was why I've been a bit wayward my gents. Anyway I really hope all is well with everyone in their sonic universes. Enjoying a bit of time off today ( Friday ) so I supplanted myself in my mancave and had a time. ;)
Genesis-- Seconds Out... ( does it really get better than this? Man, the 5.1 DTS 24/96 mix by Nick Davis is insane. Total immersion. Rutherford's moog/Taurus pedles bring down my roof! What an experience. ) The mission-- Silver ( live at the brixton acadčmy 2011. ) IQ-- The Road Bones ( god. What a crushing album. Flawless. ) Devin Townsend project-- Addicted. ( seeing good old heavy Devy in concert on Tuesday. Still haven't picked up transcendence yet, but hopefully the deluxe edition will be at the merch swag stand. ;) Volbeat. ( up from hell down from heaven) good live recording. These guys are fun. They have a good sound but they are complete hacks. Just my opinion. ) Opeth-- Ghost Reveries ( wow. This one has really grown on me quick. ) Threshold-- Extinct Instinct ( what a classic.) Goblin-- Roller ( I have it played this in a bit. Just had to hear the title track. So incredible. ) |

Yesterday:
Banco del Mutuo Soccorso - Io Sano Nato Libero Banco changes with every album as you crawl up their discography. My initial feeling about this one recall those when I first checked out Dawrin! Something is different and I'm not enjoying it immensly, but am able to appreciate how well-crafted this is. Emerson Lake & Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery One album that I think I've definitely judged to quickly. I am really starting to appreciate this one now. Especially for how well it is composed. The melodies are everywhere and they are good melodies actually. The bombast performance does not bother me anymore - I even like it. Murple - Io Sono Murple Well, I don't like it. It's rather medicore in my opinion. It's quite medicore and insignificant to me. The composition and performance are decent, but the overall effect seems quite single-faceted and boring. Sorry, guys from Murple. |

^Yeah, the cover is nice indeed. As to the material itself, my initial thoughts are just... my initial thoughts. I will keep on coming back to the album. Who knows, it might grow on me!

Banco del Mutuo Soccorso – Come in Ul’Ultima Cena – This is actually a seriously good album, not a poor second of music on the entire disc.
Mirror - Daybreak Premiata Forneria Marconi – L’isola di Niente Arena – The Unquiet Sky Camel – Stationary Traveller Yes – Time and a Word Yes – Big Generator – Still a perfectly good rock/pop album. How odd that I would prefer to listen to this any day over the recent Anderson/Stolt album! Even this album has more instrumental passages and less singing! Premiata Forneria Marconi – Passpartu – In a totally different way, this is also a great little album! Sam, you wouldn’t believe it, Goatboy sings really well on it (in Italian too): |

Il Baletto di Bronzo - Ys Great, great album. What else is there to say. I like how heaviness of this work is made to shake hands with complexity, calculation, and elegance, something that all too many bands forget about.
Quiet Sun - Mainstream What a revival! I forgot how amazing this album is. I've enjoyed it so much. Really, this is one of the most unique albums I've heard in days. Experimentation, beauty, intelligence, and astonishing atmosphere meet on Mainstream. Philip Glass - Music with Changing Parts I had the pleasure of seeing Philip Glass live when I was about 10 or 11, here in Lublin. I even handed him flowers after the concert. Now I am re-discovering his music and absolutely loving it. Music with Changing Parts is really amazing in its textural wealth. Fusioon - Fusioon Weird group. I am not familiar with many bands from Italy. These guys play elaborate prog, similar to... everything, yet nothing. They do a bit of classical-inspired tunes as well as jazzy pieces. Overall, this is nothing to write home about, but will definitely please a Canterbury fan that I am. |

It really is, my friend. Glad to to hear from ya and what a great list of sonic joy you got there. Love the tangerine dream list as well as that crazy NIN ghosts album... The king of ominous tones that are dark, but highly listenable. :) Wrapping up the weekend. APP-- Tales of Mystery& imagination ( deluxe edition with 1987 remixes. ;) Eric Woolfson-- ....Sings the alan parsons project that never was. NIN-- The Fragile (halo 14 Left & Right) Adrenalin Mob-- Undaunted ( it's not that bad. Really it isn't. ) The Orb- UFOrb (deluxe edition 2008 remaster. ) Genesis-- The Way We Walk ( the longs) How to destroy Angels-- ST ( EP) Logos-- l'enigma Della Vita ( I adore this one. So glad I bought it. ) Threshold--- Sticky Planets (EP) Devin Townsend-- Terria |

I'm feeling another ARENA kick coming on soon yet again. This is an album worthy of high praise. How can one not sing along to "How did it come this?' Heck i am doing it right now as I write this to you, Michael! Enjoy. |
