![]() I would never do that to a record, not even if I really hated it. I never listened to that one but I like some of his Pop stuff. I have "Discovery" which I partly enjoy and then "Amarok". |

Oh... I'm going to school tomorrow...
![]() Cervello - Melos Yeah! It's one of the RPI favorites. Everything just really seems to fulfill my personal musical aesthetic. It's close to perfection. Love it. Bigletto per l'Inferno - Bigletto per l'Inferno First listen and I must say I'm not crazy about that one. It's a nice listen, but it recalls all to many groups like Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, without its own identity. The music quality is about 4 stars, playing is kind of single-faceted. Decent, but not great. Samla Mammas Manna - Klosa Knapitatet Love this band by bits. All three albums are equally great and it would be near impossible to pick a favorite. Klosa Knapitatet is the least comedic, but the most elaborate musically. However, that does not mean there is no SMM-style humor on it - just a little less. This is just amazing. Premiata Forneria Marconi - Per Un Amico Yes, this is rightfully one of the most-loved RPI albums. Not my favorite, though, in fact, I'm guilty of having overlooked it a bit in the past. "Goverments will fall, winters will come and go, the humanity will die, and PFM will remain the English prog fan's favorite RPI band." Exmagma - Exmagma That's an interesting one. It's kind of krauty, kind of jazzy, kind of free, and kind of avant. It's mainly very primitive free modal jamming with a Henry Cow-like sax and krautrocky guitars. Nice, I recommend this, though the quailty of recording is terrible. Wendy Carlos - Sonic Seasonings This is troo ambient, thanks for the recommendation, Michael. If you thought Zeit or Timewind evolves slowly, you have not heard Sonic Seasonings. Wendy can really shape very nice, distinctive soundscapes! |

Miles Davis - Bitches Brew 8.5/10 You know who doesn't like this album? Hitler (citation needed). You know who else? F***ing no one, that's who.
Osanna - Palepoli 7/10 I'm always torn by this album. Parts of it are actually fantastic; the part from roughly 11:00 to 14:00 on Animale has literally made me tear up, which never happens, possibly one of my favorite passages in prog. Still, the overall album doesn't come together particularly well for me. Animale is pretty good, Oro Caldo is a bit weaker. I might get picked on for this one, so I clarify that overall this is a good album. Pauline Oliveros - Accordion and Voice (first listen) 7.5/10 Pretty good stuff, mainly comprised of forceful droning accordion and some vocals on the first track. Not quite ambient, not quite avant-garde, distinctly Oliveros and her "f*** your expectations of what Western music is supposed to be" attitude. The songs are almost comically direct and unchanging, somewhat brilliantly so. Highly enjoyable listen. Paul Bley - Open, To Love 10/10 One of my favorite albums

Arachnoid - Dark and delicious French creepy-symphonic from the 70s. A real favorite. Today's winner.
ACDC - For Those About to Rock. The best Johnson. (no pun intended). Museo Rosenbach - Zarathustra. Air - Moon Safari |

Now hang on, Jim! We need to work out your angle here! ![]() To my mind, the first three PFM albums - `Storia di un Minuto', `Per un Amico' and `L'isola di Niente' (forgetting the English language `re-make' `Photos of Ghosts' in between the last two and `The World Became the World' afterwards, both of which don't exist in my mind ![]() The rest...well, you know my feelings from several previous rants before about those ones! ![]() |

PFM are fine, I'm not bashing them. But the quote is funny and resonates with me, I like the zestier RPI red sauce. But I just want to know where that came from!

It's been a very good day today.
![]() Banco del Mutuo Soccorso - Banco del Mutuo Soccorso This is a perfect album! I had been a bit hesitant to have a listen once more, thinking I would not enjoy it as much, because it could've been blind love. And were I wrong? This album really has something that really suits my personality, my soul, my emotions. I just have a very intimate spiritual bond with this album, if that makes any sense. Magma - Kobaia Had some time before the new-school-year ceremony in school, so I thought I would finnish this old review I started a while ago. You can read it here, if you wish. Won't say anything about the album here, it would be kind of pointless. As always, I encourage you to read. Rustichelli e Bordini - Opera Prima This album surprisingly gets relatively low ratings and I am capable of understanding why, but, for me personally, it's great. It really fascinates me what amazing duo can do. Not only are compositions very nice, the production and the overall sound is really pleasing. The vocals are an acquired taste for me. If I were to come up with an artistic name for this album, it would be "The Temple of Great Keyboards." ![]() Wigwam - Fairyport I had never checked out a full Wigwam album before, just tracks and portions of albums. I was not prepared for how good this was really - it has everything I like about mild Canterburian jazz-rock reinvented fused with Wigwam's unique style of composing and great sense of humor (I mean, c'mon, gotta love those titles). Great album, very original. I wish I checked this out much earlier. Le Orme - Contrappunti To quote Micheal, "Poor Old Contrappunti..." I was surprised to like it at first listen. Although there is loads of contrast here, the music flows rather naturally and has a healthy amount of sophistication in it. Obviously, it's not as full, colorful, evocative as the previous two (and even three), but it's a nice effort. It deserves a much better cover in my opinion. Birth Control - Hoodoo Man I followed Sam in checking out Birth Control. I knew the band more or less, but could not remember much. It's a very nice album. I like their improvisational style and the structure of the compositions. Once again, the flow is very natural, pleasant and the jazzy organ make the whole deal so much better. Nice! |
