Star Trek "Charlie X", which is one of my favourite episodes.
For such an early Trek it is rather good, even moving-- "I want to stay...stay....stay.....stay...
I found that quite moving at the end, which is really why it's a favourite (and he reminds me of my adolescent daughter a bit). I think the ideas are really good for every episode of the first season (including utilising The Cage in one), but there are flaws. I sometimes find it amazing how lax the security on the Enterprise is (today I think audiences might expect tighter security). Like yesterday I re-watched Lazarus, and how Lazarus was able to roam the ship and so easily transport down to the planet at the peril of the multiverse doesn't seem likely. And there are sometimes more logical solutions than what they opt for, but would be more complicated to write and film in the time limits (then there's the editing) so the drama can be a bit lazy when it comes to resolving issues. It's fun to see obvious stunt-doubles fighting. Ah, but I don't like to nit-pick. It's still very enjoyable and highly creative. I never, or rarely I should say, found the later Star Trek series as satisfyingly imaginative
Oh yeah there are all sorts of inconsistencies which, as you suggest, helped the drama move along ~ like not being able to simply locate and beam-up someone in danger, or why a starship's sensors can't detect a cloaked ship ~ but I'll take it over the all-too-perfect world of contemporary science fiction like in NextGen which was often missing real tension or action. It was the lack of resources the old show had; the meager budget, etc., and the blend of thoughtful, smart sci-fi with high energy movement that made the original so good.

Agreed, and I think the fairly limited budget made them all the more creative. I also think that the original has aged better than, say, TNG. I liked TNG a lot when it came out, though, but liked with later series, it got too talkie-talkie and far too much technobabble.
Star Trek TNG's Conspiracy was one of my favourites of that show, but I still prefer the amoeba like creatures in Operation -- Annihilate! (re-watched this last night) that look like that fake vomit you can buy in gag stores to the stop-motion creation in TNG.
