some musicians share the same name and hence are often confused with each other. a good example is Hawkwind's singer Robert Calvert, who is sometimes confused with the sax player of the same name who played for Catapilla and Mother Gong. this one is especially confusing because Mother Gong is a spin-off of Gong, and Gong and Hawkwind are befriended bands and exchanged a lot of musicians (just think of synth player Tim Blake, who even was a member of both bands at the same time at some point in his career), so it seems logical. Hawkwind's Robert Calvert did however die Aug 14th 1988; Mother Gong's Robert Calvert joined them in 1988 and played on all their albums from then on.

Hawkwind's Robert Calvert: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Calvert

Catapilla's Robert Calvert: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Calvert_(saxophonist)

Dave Stewart, keyboarder of Arzachel, Egg, Khan, Hatfield and the North, National Health and Bruford, must not be confused with Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics (not a prog band though).

what other musicians who share names can you think of?

Heir Apparent (Prog metal) had a keyboardist called Michael Jackson.

Here & Now had a keyboardist with the stage name of Twink (who also performed with Gong)
who ain't the same Twink as the one from the Pink Fairies or Pretty Things.

There are two keyboard players named Peter Robinson; one famous for his involvement in Quatermass and Brand X, to name a few, and another Peter Robinson who was keyboard player for US fusion band Contraband.
On the liner notes to the original CD issue of Quatermass, they make the mistake of including Contraband in the discography of Quatermass's Peter Robinson, but it is a different person.

I got all excited when I saw Jon McLaughlin was coming to a local theater, but when I clicked on the advert to buy tickets, I was taken to a photo of a haircut......didn't notice the missing "h" in the first name.

I always used to get really confused by mixing up Tony Kaye, Peter Banks and Tony Banks. I wonder if there are any prog musicians named Peter Kaye?
