I'm watching. Sunday's episode was a bit below par but the first episode was brilliant.

NO!!!!!!!!
good example of why.. I'd attach a spoiler tag to this preview chapter of the upcoming book for non book readers... but why do that. Are any of these characters even in the TV series. perhaps one of the sand snakes.. but likely in a completely different manner as in the book. http://www.georgerrmartin.com/excerpt-from-the-winds-of-winter/ definitely not the most important and definitely not the single most interesting character IMO in the whole book series. A fan favorite whose deletion drove more than a few, like myself away. Stoneheart? WFT but we could live without her.. but Arianne... unforgivable... epic FAIL!!! the show had a first couple of seasons.. fell flat when it should have been greatest in season 3.. and went off the rails in season 4. I gave up on it after that.. changes to the book are not in themselves bad.. but bad changes are just .. sh*t... bah... Edited by micky - May 11 2016 at 16:59 |

The showrunners for making changes. The mediums are totally different and frankly a lot of the changes were kind of necessary.

Yeah, I marathon watched the first 5 seasons to catch up in time for the 6th. Wasn't sure I'd like it, if anything I was mildly skeptical but I was wrong, it's pretty awesome.
6 has been OK so far, I've been a tad underwhelmed and the biggest news so far we all, (god I hope) knew was gunna happen since last season, but it's still building I'm sure. |

Gave up on the books after reading half of book 1 (did not have the patience and writing is nowhere near as epic or enthralling as e.g. LOTR). Series does the job for me and quite good so far, seems like each season starts low and peaks towards ep. 7-8.
The only thing I watch from TV. |

I don' t follow the TV show, I have only seen some shorter parts of it. I have not really liked it.
But I love George R. R. Martin's book series. A rare case when the student does a better job than his master. I prefer A Song of Fire and Ice over The Lord of Rings, to be honest. Martin focuses on real people, his characters are really human, the fantasy elements (Dragons, the enigmatic "husky-eyed guys" etc.) are added sparsely, but effectively to the saga which is often rather an excellent historical fiction, than usual fantasy. The battle scene towards the end of Clash of Kings... Not many writers can match this intensity. No romanticism and glorifications for war here. |

This latest episode was excellent. This season began a bit slow and lingered longer than I expected but it's really building now. |
