Ouch!  I know many of the day are getting on in age, but damn, they are happening so close together...

Oddly enough, just yesterday I found a Emerson, Lake, and POWELL CD in a thrift store and got it because I had not heard it before...strange.

RIP, Keith.  ELP, Floyd, and Yes were the gateway for me into prog, Thanks!

Keith followed George Martin. Oh gosh! Least expected and worst news.
We were promised the show that never ends and Keith's music lives on. R.I.P.

just got home and since I was in a trench all day I hadn't heard.

shocked.. about all I can say.

A sad day for progressive rock.. only Fripp is in the discussion for singular impact on the music.  Even then Fripp takes second. Emerson WAS prog man.  The single greatest rock keyboardist that ever lived..

RIP man.. and hold a seat at St. Patricks open for me. First couple of rounds will be on me as long as you let me go on about how hot Carl Palmer and his hair were...

Very saddened by this.  I said this already elsewhere but I think what comes out is how he took directly the dumbing down of culture which could not understand or appreciate his music.   He had everything, the rebellion and the scholarly approach to music in one place, yet he was unjustly treated by many.

Man, I can't believe this sh*t. So sad.

ELP were the first prog band I've listened to with Floyd. I got Trilogy for my 15th birthday in 2007 :'(
I shook my head and smiled a whisper knowing all about the place

Logged in after a long time just to say RIP.

Wrote three lenghty posts, and deleted them all.

I feel empty.

Keith Emerson was a teacher, a guru, even a substitute father in a way: he changed my life forever.

Thank you Keith, and rest in peace.

One day, the humanity will properly acknowledge your visions.

We owe you.

I rarely post anymore, but there's nothing to bring me out of the woodwork like the loss of Keith Emerson. The man was the Hendrix of the organ in his era. No one played like Keith; none of his peers (there were none) could touch him. The Hammond to him was a guitar, and he wielded it as such. Before Keith, the keyboard was just a part of the band. Think about it. Who were his predecessors in rock? Alan Price? Doug Ingle? Ray Manzarek? Rod Argent? They all played a couple of iconic riffs. But who transformed what an organist could be? It was Keith. He borrowed heavily, sometimes to the point of plagiarism. So what. So did every rock musician. And this is not even touching upon his pioneering synth work.

Yes, in the later years he turned into a caricature of himself. That in no way negates his primeval influence on the genre this site celebrates.

Man, I am depressed.

RIP Keith.
Can you tell me where we're headin'?

I Just saw the scroll on the CBC news channel.
He was my #1 guy in prog. I'm absolutely devastated. I thought he'd live to be 100.

From Cobo Hall in Detroit.
