In my opinion, the voice actors in the English dubs sound too old if the characters are teenagers. And many anime series have teenage protagonists. Japanese voice actresses seem not to have any problems sounding like an 11 year old girl even when they are actually in their late 30s.

Cowboy Bebop, Steins Gate and Darker Than Black are amazing on blu ray.  The animation really pops and is nice to look at.  I'm looking at picking up the original Mobile Suit Gundam series on BR when it comes out next month.  I only have a decent bootleg dvd copy of that series, so an official BR release should look nice.  Still one of my all time favorites.  Also, Black Lagoon was another great BR set.  They're not terribly expensive, either, if you look on Amazon.

1. i guess you might have to read the manga if that's the case

2. anyway, i started my journey with the Fate series from Type-Moon with Fate/Stay Night (2006) and the film version of UBW

.....now before you go on and hang me on Gallows Hill (you figure that one out), i want to point out that i did this out of curiosity, and i wanted to see the basis of the Fate route in the original visual novel (am aware of the things taken out there), and the film was for what's to be expected from that route when i get to the TV series. may be going for Fate/Zero (which i can't wait!!)

overall, enjoyment was rather high despite some of the animation and writing inconsistencies for the series and the over-editing for the film. let the hate roll in!!

At this point the 2006 Fate/Stay Night is better as a curio more than anything else. It's not that it's a bad series, it's just it starts off following the Fate route from the visual novel and then starts throwing in things from the Heavens Feel and Unlimited Blade Works routes, things which tent to revolve around opposing choices being made so it doesnt really work as well.

Ufotable's Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works series from this year is definitely the one to go with, much more coherant as a complete story and Ufotables animation quality wipes the floor with everything that isnt a big OVA series. Same goes for their Fate/Zero prequel series and I'm looking forward to the Heavens Feel films they're currently working on. Just a shame they've said they wont animate the Fate route though, there's some very important information regarding Shiro and Saber in there.

i can attest to that, but i'm not sure about that project especially with the God Eater mishap (in terms of their seemingly "unlimited" budget)

Code Geass is in my Top 5.

I love the concept and the epic scale of characters. Reminded me of FMA:B.

LeLouch is possibly my favorite character in anime, maybe behind Okabe from Steins;Gate.

Code Geass is exceptional, rivals Steins;Gate for being my favourite anime, an amazing story with amazing characters. Wish I could say the same about it's OVA, Akito the Exiled, the first two parts were pretty good but part 3 was terrible.

Never heard of Speed Grapher.

hmmmmmm.... i wanted to get this out of my chest for the past weekend regarding something...

Opinions. i respect them. even if it's complete utter bullsh*t. even if it's out of the ordinary, whether it be for worse or not. i mention this because i'm kind of "losing" my mind over something that's called "sh*t tastes." i've become to despising this phrase because it's pretty much insult to the other person. i'd still be supporting someone that has this. which becomes hypocritical of me regarding the music industry and the crappy artists that come out in today's world. i may have become so offended by this that i don't know what to believe anymore. sometimes i own up to this idea and sometimes i lean towards the wayside. i don't know what the f**k i should i do!! anyway, it mainly came out of this anime, thus relating to this thread.

Akame ga Kill! so far i'm actually enjoying this series, even with the English dub. however, it has become so hated that if i mention this i get attacked at. and some of these arguments are plausible. it's not the best thing in the world, but i still get a kick out of it nonetheless. any advice on this matter, and your thoughts on this anime? would be very appreciated before i get crazy bonkers...

Not the biggest fan of CG. It's not bad, but it definitely moves too fast. Not that I couldn't tell what was going on, but I couldn't care about the characters because they either developed too fast or barely had time to develop. There were also some parts where they completely overblow Lelouch's intelligence to be something pretty ridiculous. I mean, it was entertaining, but I definitely wasn't into it as much as most.

Speaking of Geass, when Schneizel moved his own king in check during the chess game, was I the only one to think of the blackjack scene from Austin Powers?
He looks at this world and wants it all... so he strikes, like Thunderball!

Alright. When I was watching it whiled it aired I liked it as a real guilty pleasure anime. It's fairly shallow substance wise but it was entertaining to watch. Though while I liked it early on, it quickly became too predictable and just lost its flair. I think that is the general consensus for the show though, had a strong opening and early episodes but just went downhill .That is probably the dislike you're talking about.

Going back to your previous post: Opinions are opinions. They're sometimes fun to discuss and influence but don't take the negative side of them too seriously. Enjoy what you like. That is in general too - not just anime.

okay, what if that opinion is out of range in regards to this anime, and i'm sorry i'm going to use this example:

the BlackCriticGuy, a YouTube movie/anime critic; he gave it 5/5. should i still respect that and still support him regardless? or is it just too out of the ordinary for me to take in? should i care then?

Yea especially if he entertains you or presents his opinion well.

Look at The Needle Drop, a popular music reviewing channel on YouTube, his ratings of some (many) albums i completely disagree with, but it is how it is presented and just the quality of the content that matters imo. Sure there are going to be opinions that go against the popular consensus, but it really doesn't matter in the world of art or entertainment. If you agree with that ratings of Akame, cool, then you have an instance where a show or channel can be used for recommendations - if not then just take it for entertainment.

okay, it's just that some people can take things way out of proportion and what not, and it's messing with my head, you know?

I finished the second season of Darker Than Black, and I enjoyed it more than the first.  It had a more focused (if not "darker") story line and the characters felt more fleshed out.  Now I'm off to Welcome To The NHK while I try to finish Another.  I'm NOT enjoying that one as much as I thought I would.  Not bad, just kind of boring.

I finished Berserk last Friday, very addictive anime, too bad they never ended the story. I feel like I should read the manga... that's probably why it's the top rated manga on MAL.
I also rated the animes I watched before, I think some are not very accurate since I watched them some years ago.
