Can't stand Disco Queen either, thankfully the majority of Scarsick is good though. My second favorite from them after Entropia. Tongue

Par Lindh Project (the older version of the band with Magda) is my standard answer. Gothic Impressions,Veni Vidi Vici and Mundus Incompertus are all superb . Sadly Magda is no longer with us and Par Lindh did try to reinvent the band recently but Time Mirror turned out to be a bit mediocre. However those albums I mentioned before that were made in the 90's and 00's are well worth checking out.

Richard Pinhas should be a prog household name.....first Heldon, then a great run of solo stuff.....Desolation Row and Tikkum show that this guy just ain't slowing down....great stuff.

^ I second that.
His recent material is very good too. I simply adore the collab he did with Merzbow. Like sticking your head down a Coke bottle. Just so fizzy and delish.

There are hundreds, even thousands, of prog bands that should be better known. This thread reminds me that I should get back to writing reviews, something I've been putting off for way too long. I can't think of any better way to make them become better known than promoting them through some kind words in a review.

Hear, hear. Indeed should these new bands get more attention. Funny to find this thread after writing something of that nature in the Chris Squire thread.

Here's a good example of one that deserves more attention:

The band in my avatar - Lifesigns. Their debut is one of the best prog albums of the century.

Not to mention that his articles on "Eurock" about music are so far out there that it is more of a philosophy, than anything else. They are way too difficult to figure out, but apparently there is a "vision" and a "concept" over there that is way too weird for a place like PA.  None of his words will ever fit into the ideas that PA professes and insists on.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

prog folk is just full of bands like this, but I guess prog folk suffers from the same problems with respect to other forms of prog that folk music does in relation to other forms of popular music.  I try to review as many of these artists as I can just so they can have ONE review so people can know something of them....

here are a couple of my favorites, both from Italy

one from Wales that had a flurry of early support but needs more!

or this instrumental group from Finland

or this Scottish folkie, with a true lost classic

finally a Scottish/German collaboration, now in crossover.  I don't get how these guys aren't as big as the biggest neo bands.  I can't even find much in the way of youtubes on them but here is a video review.  The booming voice is that of Phil Griffiths, son of Martin Griffiths of Beggars Opera
