Crossover Prog by The Catfish Man

   So, I've been tossing an idea around for a bit now and decided that it's time to bring it to fruition.
I get to listen to a lot of new bands for addition to the Crossover Prog genre (Neo too, but that will be another blog).  In the act of previewing all of these bands, I get to hear a lot of great ones.  In fairness, I get to hear some less than great ones as well.  

This blog is going to focus on the ones that I really like.  It's all my personal preference but it's a chance to highlight the ones that I wanted to give a little extra attention to.  I'll try to include links to their music where I can.  Feel free to comment, though I urge you to keep the comments polite and constructive.  There's a good chance that the bands themselves may be perusing our pages.

I've got about a six month back log so I'll start with the oldest.  Enjoy!

	1974 Boston based 1974 has been playing live shows since 2007 and has built a steady following on their way to winning multiple awards in their local music scene. They have released two EP's and two full length albums, all of which are available on Bandcamp: http://1974.bandcamp.com/merch I recommend the two full length releases, "1974 & The Battle for the Lazer Fortress" and "1974 & The Death of the Herald", as a starting point. Like Coheed and Cambria, the band tends to focus on a single science fiction story spanning both of their CD's, though musically, they are not nearly as heavy as the Cambrians. Musically, you can hear echos of Kansas and The Beatles, though with an unashamedly modern sound. Their music is intricate and at times, vaguely pompous. Enjoy!

	Thanks Micky, I think it will be fun. There are a lot of new bands out there, if I can bring a little attention to some of them then I'm pretty happy.

	That's nice, Tom! (Funnily I misread your FB announcement "The first band is Boston based 1974" at first and thought of the band BOSTON that could have started in 1974 (seems it was 1975 - close!). Ha ha! The Third Stage album does have some slight prog tendencies but probably that band won't have any business here.)

	Thanks Matti, That's kind of funny, while these guys do have occasional AOR tendencies (I don't think that's a bad thing mind you) they're a far cry from the band, Boston.

	Just listening to The Death of the Herald as I type. Nice, very nice. They seem to be able to fit so much into just a short song, and that's a great quality. Being on Bandcamp is a big plus too . Thanks for the recommendation Tom .
