Would you believe me if I told you that the very last piece of music we were listening to in the car on the way home from church just now was the "Amazing Grace" bonus track on Going for the One?

RIP to a man whose music was a huge influence on my life.
A very sad day. I hope Yes call it a day, as there can be no band without him.

R.I.P Chris, one of the most inventive and influential musicians in the progressive music genre, who completely changed the way the instrument could be played. I was lucky to see him perform live several times here in Australia, and despite the band getting on in years, Chris' bass playing was as grumbling, thick and dynamic as always. I love this photo I took of him at Yes' show in Melbourne last year, he looked like the damn Lion King to me, and he was a king amongst progressive musicians!

Great photo, Aussie Brother! It captures him at his majestic best. This is how I want to remember him, at least visually. Strong, prophetic, full of grace and power. This is also the WORST news of the year. Now a mountain has returned to the sky from which he came. Today, there is thunder in western Washington state. Perhaps it is Chris giving us a fond farewell; the man knew the nature of thunder. Condolences to family, friends, and fans.

Yes, very sad. Perhaps the most enduring member of Yes!
Upon hearing the news, I put on "Silently Falling", and it brought me to tears. |

He helped change the face of music. I'm numb. Thoughts are with his family and Yes.

The thrill of listening to Yes as a young man has never left me, and I sit here tonight with a sad heart.
Squire was a towering influence on not just progressive rock, but also rock music as a whole. I can only think of Entwistle as a bass player of equal stature. Squire spent many years putting music to the spiritual musings of Jon Anderson. He is now in heaven, living the endless dream. God bless, and thanks for all of the great music which has provided me, and millions of others, with such pleasure. Oh......please........stop touring as Yes the rest of you. Give it a rest. |

I know today isn't the time and place for that discussion, not here, and surely not with however is running Yes now. I think reason will prevail and they will call it a day.. or possibly.. if possible considering their various healths and schedules.. we might see a final tour.. the original classics (Anderson, Wakeman, Bruford, Howe) team up the ultimate bassist for hire. Levin. And do a final tour in Squires memory..and a final chapter for the band. Perhaps dreaming.. but I'd actually go see that. To honor him, and the band.
