From the band....by the way does anyone know the date/location of his last show?
It’s with the heaviest of hearts and unbearable sadness that we must inform you of the passing of our dear friend and Yes co-founder, Chris Squire. Chris peacefully passed away last night in Phoenix Arizona. For the entirety of Yes’ existence, Chris was the band’s linchpin and, in so many ways, the glue that held it together over all these years. Because of his phenomenal bass-playing prowess, Chris influenced countless bassists around the world, including many of today’s well-known artists. Chris was also a fantastic songwriter, having written and co-written much of Yes’ most endearing music, as well as his solo album, Fish Out of Water. Outside of Yes, Chris was a loving h usband to Scotty and father to Carmen, Chandrika, Camille, Cameron, and Xilan. With his gentle, easy-going nature, Chris was a great friend of many … including each of us. But he wasn’t merely our friend: he was also part of our family and we shall forever love and miss him. |

Very, very sad news. I first saw Yes in 1971 at Gaelic Park in Bronx, NY and was immediately amazed. Squire's playing and sound was a tremendous contributor to the success of the group. May he Rest In Peace.

Today we've lost an irreplaceable part of music's history. Few players could play with as much passion and drive as he, and he was absolutely essential in the Yes sound, a band that we all hold close and dear. He will be missed. RIP.

RIP This is terrible news, Yes was one of my favorite bands at one point, one of the early favorites of the progressive rock genre.

I'll never forget hearing Fragile for the first time, when I was in high school. It was the bass guitar that drew me into this music - this entire genre of music. It was so different than the music I was familiar with.
Thanks for all the great music, Chris. And thanks also for the other things - the excitement of tracking down cheap Yes LPs in the used record stores of Amherst, Massachusetts; the thrill of attending Yes concerts; the friends I've made over Yes music. You'll be missed. RIP |

RIP Chris. I'll never forget the first time Roundabout clicked with me and the bass became something I really looked for in music. The sun will lead us...

After Geddy he was the first bass player I had heard who was very upfront in the mix and a huge part of a band's sound. I still think of Fragile when I hear Squire's name. He was a huge influence on Geddy and so many other bass players.
I mentioned on another site that i'm sure Geddy will mention Chris at their show in New York City tomorrow night. I was at the Toronto show by Rush in 2003 and Geddy dedicated a song to Entwhistle who had just passed back then. Such sad news.
