In re, 10cc. Graham Gouldman stated in regards to the band's name:

"The average male ejaculation is 10cc. There’s a couple of reasons really, but that’s the short answer."

I see no reason to doubt it. It certainly less idiotic an answer than "it came to me in a dream" as once was foisted about.

I was aware of the Gouldman quote - but the dream one is the version given by King (who coined the name) and the rest of the band, hence the "probably". Wink

...though a lot of what King claims can be taken with a pinch of salt, his claim to naming Genesis has been refuted by someone in the band (I forget who now).

Needless to say, the point I was originally making was the idea that Queen should not be taken seriously because of their band name is a silly notion. Particularly with so many serious bands with so many silly names. Jethro Toe, for instance.
...a vigorous circular motion hitherto unknown to the people of this area, but destined
to take the place of the mud shark in your mythology...

that's a great fact  , and makes me wonder what No1's did John Deacon and Roger Taylor write? Your My Best Friend is my guess for Deacon , but for Taylor not a clue. Its got to be something like Hammer To Fall I reckon.

^Hammer to Fall is written by May and it's never topped the charts in the UK.

Queen's UK No 1 singles are:
Bohemian Rhapsody (Mercury), Under Pressure (Queen & Bowie, all five involved in songwriting), Innuendo (Mercury & Taylor), These Are the Days of Our Lives (Taylor).

Queen's US No 1 singles were:
Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Mercury), Another One Bites the Dust (Deacon).
This night wounds time.

A larger population than Great Britain... I'd say that counts quite nicely.

I never said they all had number ones in the same country

It always amused me that someone covered the ELP/Greg Lake song C'est la Vie and had a big hit in France because one presumes it had a French title.

Queen by kilometers.

Anyway, 10 cc's "Feel the benefit" is a great song with an entire part 'dedicated' to my country (all misleading but never mind). Ah, the song video reserves a surprise in the last frame.

why not? Confused

Well, as an astute friend of mine once put it, just look at the name.

that's the lamest excuse for dissing a band.

hope you were making a joke...
