Agree, Todd! It's a bit unfair that I look down on it a bit just because I love the original so much.
But at the same time, I got to listen to the first Venegoni and Co album today, and I think I find that a little more exciting than it. Not to worry! I've just begun listening to both of them, so early days yet! |

I recently searched Latin progressive rock on YouTube and listened to several bands. I eventually purchased Metamorfosis (Spain), Praxis (Mexico) and Caja De Pandora (Mexico). |

In my post on Arti & Mestieri I mentioned how close I rate Tilt and Giro (the only two I owned
until recently). I feel the same way about the two IL Volo albums that I have had since the seventies. On any given day I might enjoy either one over the other. The self titled release has great musicianship with easy to listen to vocals that blend nicely with the music. With two keyboards and two guitars there are some great piano parts and excellent guitar solos. "Essere" has fewer vocals but they still blend so the majority of the album is instrumental. It's a little more jazz influenced than the first album and has some impressive acoustic guitar and accented with interesting keyboard sounds. I rate these two very close but if IL Volo had been a one album band I would have preferred that Essere O Non Essere be that one album. Does anyone have opinions on this band?

Those first two are outstanding, both masterpieces. Arco Iris is excellent also.

For me, Il Volo is a good band, but they don't reach the heights of the best bands of the era. They have their moments but are never able to sustain that level over the course of a single album. Of the two albums, I agree in that I prefer Essere over the debut.

Arti & Mestieri, Banco and Osanna were missing from my collection.
All the others were new to me but I listened to them (sometimes more than once) before I ordered and liked everything enough to own it. Right now I'm listening to Anabelas by Bubu and really like the full album.

Your mail delivery person is going to ask for a raise in pay soon . IL Rovescio Della Medaglia - Contaminazione is one of my favorites in RPI! I love the beautiful almost seem-less blending of prog and classical music. Gorgeous stuff! I have not heard that Area album on your list, I will look for it on the tube. Love most of Area's stuff, I think Crac is just as good (to me) as the classic Albeit.... As Pierre mentioned, great stuff!
